With the possibility of getting some great deals, Yves Saint Laurent fans didn’t let this morning’s downpour from stopping them. At 8:15 am, the line at the Metropolitan Pavilion snaked around the block from 18th Street to 6th Avenue.
For just two days, YSL is hosting a friends-and-family sale where you can get up to 80 percent off retail prices. One of this morning’s shoppers came out of the sale at 9:30am with two platform YSL boots for $350 a pair. She reported that the place was already picked over, adding:  “not a lot of great stuff left.”

Meanwhile, there was a shorter line for French children’s label, Bonpoint‘s sample sale which was taking place a floor above the YSL sale. I decided to check out Bonpoint instead since I needed to get presents for my two nieces. It was calm inside with plenty of women looking through the garments which were neatly folded on tables by size or hung on racks next to the walls. They are giving up to 75 percent off the retail prices on their lines of boys and girls clothing. Baby coats $70-180 (were $180-450). Girl’s cardigans/pullovers $55 (were $155). Girl’s coats $80-175 (were $180-550). Boy’s pants $60 (were $150). Shoes $35-$80 (were $150-260). I ended up getting a darling white cotton blouse with lace for one of my neices. The other will be getting a pink cashmere cardigan.
