Summer brings some great deals at retailers… We look at two high-end department stores who are now offering end-of-season sales. Here’s a report from Larry Label Whore:
“As many of our readers know my favorite times of the year are the department store end-of-season sales. This year didn’t disappoint with Barneys and Bergdorfs going 75% off, while Saks went 70% off and Bloomingdale’s has their famous “Deal Reveal” where you can get up to an extra 40% off sale items.
Every end-of-season sale I have found that either Barneys or Bergdorfs has great stuff, but not both at the same time. This time Bergdorfs was the place to go to. Even though Barneys has seven floors of high-end glory, there was more of a selection of better items at Bergdorfs. At Bergdorf, I found great pieces from Givenchy, Alexander McQueen, Fendi, Comme des Garçons, and Thom Browne. In the end, I ended up buying a Givenchy pullover sweater for $160 from $640.
I then made my way to Barneys where they always have the best accessories on sale. I spotted many Christian Louboutin wallets, a couple of Fendi monster wallets, a Givenchy wallet, and a good number of high-end designer card cases. On the rest of the floors were the usual suspects like Balenciaga, Givenchy, Alexander McQueen, Paul Smith, and Prada. The only item I was really into was a Prada blue bomber puffer jacket down to $330. I didn’t end up getting it because I already many jackets at home.
I wanted to check out the selection at Bloomingdale’s for their “Deal Reveal” sale especially since they are my favorite for Burberry. There wasn’t a big selection of Burberry sale items, but they had 60% off retail plus the Deal Reveal percentage off of designers like McQ Alexander McQueen, Theory, and Junya Watanabe for Comme des Garçons. A zip-up bomber-like embroidered sweater by Junya Watanabe for Comme des Garçons caught my eye. It was $400 from $1000 plus whatever extra percentage you get. My percentage was an extra 30% off so it would have been $280.
My shopping excursion ended at Saks where they always have the best selection, but not the best prices. Lots of Burberry, Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Dsquared2, Salvatore Ferragamo, and more lined the racks. Probably the best deal of the day was on the Ferragamo shearling leather coats at over $1600 from $4300. These are classic Ferragamo coats that I have never seen go on sale. I think it’s actually the first time and for 60% on top of that. I would have grabbed one in a second, but since I had never seen them go on sale I already bought a Bloomingdale’s shearling leather jacket last year for $950 from $3000. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.
