Steven Alan is closing its flagship store in Tribeca. After 17-years, the doors shutter tomorrow, September 7th.
The designer began a downsizing plan a couple of years ago. But he couldn’t continue to keep this store open during this shaky retail environment.
We popped into the shop yesterday evening to find the shop filled with fans of the brand. It was buzzing but not mobbed.
On sale are items you’d find normally on sale such as apparel, accessories, shoes and home. Also on sale are the store’s fixtures, mannequins and displays.
As for the markdowns, most of what we spotted such as clothing was 50% off retail. Jewelry is 30% off.
There’s signage around the store marked with sale pricing. Also, many of the tags are priced as marked. However, not everything is on sale some items such as the Saint James Breton knitwear aren’t on sale.
A number of shoppers asked staffers if the brand was going out-of-business. They were told no that the e-commerce site would still be up and running.
I overheard someone saying that Steven Alan took many of the samples and is keeping them at his home. We wonder what the next steps are fir this once popular brand…
