Saks Fifth Avenue Sale

Through this Sunday (July 7th), Saks Fifth Avenue is hosting a major designer sale.  Larry Label Whore checked out the offerings at the flagship store on Fifth Avenue.

“My favorite department store sale of the year is here. While Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s give you sales all year ’round, Saks only goes down 70% a handful times a year. I wait for this sale because it’s the only time when brands like Dior and Ferragamo go down that low. For the 4th of July sale, I was pleased with the selection of the shirts, but not so much with shoes and sweaters.

I stepped onto the 9th floor and as usual I was overwhelmed by the racks of clothes. I started with the shirts and sweaters section where I found a lot of the mid-range brands such as Michael Kors, Hugo Boss, and the Saks label. Amongst these you’ll also find Calvin Klein Collection, Burberry, Ferragamo, Brioni, Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana, and Alexander McQueen. Most of the stuff even after the 70% off was still overpriced, but I’m a huge Ferragamo fan so I picked a shirt for $93 from $310. I also love Burberry and picked up another shirt for $75 from $250. Some good deals included $60 short-sleeved polos from Michael Bastian and Roberto Cavalli after the discount.

I next sifted through the sweaters, but I didn’t see any that caught my eye except a buttoned down Marni sweater for $264 from $880. It was still too steep for me and I looked old in it…Not a good combination. Other sweaters on the racks were from Burberry, Michael Kors, Saks brand, Brioni, and Dolce & Gabbana.

I next went down to check on the shoes which were only 60% off. They had all of the top brands there like Prada, Gucci, Ferragamo, and Tod’s. Not as big of a selection that they will have at the consolidation sale plus 60% off is not that much so I would wait till the consolidation sale for a bigger selection and maybe a 70% off discount.

These deals still don’t compare to the great Michael Kors deals I got at Bloomingdale’s a few weeks ago or the 90% off of Calvin Klein Collection at their sample sale this year.

My advice is to definitely stop by the Saks sale and check out what they have. I am sure you can find a great high-end piece to complement your wardrobe. Go for brands like Dior, Ferragamo, Alexander McQueen, and Burberry, but not Michael Kors, Calvin Klein Collection, or Hugo Boss. Stick to Bloomingdale’s or sample sales for the latter.

UPDATE on my latest shopping excursion with my parents at Bloomingdale’s after going to Saks today. I picked up an amazing Marc by Marc Jacobs leather and fabric hoodie for $46 from $338 and a half-zip Hugo Boss pullover for $20 from $125, while my dad picked up the same Hugo Boss pullover, but in a bigger size and Polo Ralph Lauren Made in Italy pants for $46 from $350. You can’t beat those deals! Happy Fourth of July!”
