We did manage to check out the Saks Fifth Avenue consolidation sale. Here’s a report from Larry Label Whore who went on the first day looking for deals:

“It’s that time of year again: the Saks consolidation sale at the Fifth avenue flagship store! Sample sale season has been pretty dead lately so if you want to find some high-end designer duds for 70% off then head to Saks. The store has a wide array of designers in the sale including Dior, Calvin Klein Collection, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Alexander McQueen, Viktor & Rolf, Phillip Lim, etc… Even at up to 70% off, you’re still going to have to shell out a lot for clothes.

I usually stay away from discounts that are less then 75% off, but some things you will not be able to find for that much elsewhere. One of those things is Dior, which if you were at the New Years sale was 70% off plus an extra 10% for using your Saks card. This sale had some of the leftover Dior, but at only the 70% off. I spotted a black wool jacket originally $2900 down to $870. It’s still expensive, but I don’t think you can get Dior for that much off even at the Woodbury Commons outlet. I also spotted a Burberry Brit buttoned down shirt for a nice $58.50.

The best item I found at the sale was a blue Ferragamo short-sleeve polo shirt for $81 down from $270. There was also a multi-colored one for $93 down from $310, but I didn’t like it that much. The only Saks that carries Ferragamo ready-to-wear is the one in L.A. so you have to get it when you can. Of course, I instantly bought the blue polo.

There was lots of Calvin Klein Collection, but I didn’t even look. I’m waiting to see what Soiffer Haskin will have at their CKC sale which starts Sunday. I’m expecting deeper discounts there than the ones here. I absolutely love Calvin Klein Collection, which I own a few pieces of, so I’m extremely excited to see what’s offered at that sale and for how much.

All in all, I found this sale to be okay. There wasn’t anything especially amazing and I’ve found better deals at Bloomingdale’s. That said, I think it’s worth a trip because you might find that one thing you love. I have to warn you though since it’s a consolidation sale there are racks and racks of bunched-up clothes. Be prepared to spend time digging through the lot.”
