“Shoppers were in a good mood today at the Steven Alan sample sale. Lots of smiles and giggles and polite inquires (maybe people think I work here?) from fellow shoppers. None of the hoarding, stampeding or shoving typical at other sample sales.
Besides the Steven Alan pieces, there are lots of other brands and designers available here. All non-Steven Alan items are 75% off original retail. Steven Alan menswear are priced the same as women (see price list in the gallery below) with the exception of button ups and shorts are $65; and pants are $55. On the price list it says children’s wear is $25, but they were no where to be found. When I asked where it was located I was told they do not have any. Maybe they’ll bring in kids’ stuff later in the week.
Men’s merchandise dominate the sale. Men’s in in the middle and right wall, woman’s is on the left wall and in the back.
When I came in I headed straight downstairs. That’s where the accessories and shoes are. Lots of one-offs in the shoes. I was a little disappointed with the selection. There were mostly boots and sandals for women. Some brands include Acne studios, Steven Alan, MM6, Isabel Marant Etoile, Ancient Greek sandals, Rachel Comey, Jil Sander, Anne Thomas, Hope, Dieppa Restreppo, Robert Clergerie, Superga x Steven Alan and more. I was told they do not expect another shipment but you never know, this venue tends to get another shipment towards the end of the sale.
Accessories are laid out in buckets. Belts, underwear, scarves, handbags, and hats. In the handbag bins I spotted Steven Alan cross bodies ($60), Claire Vivier clutches, Baggu coin pouches, woven baskets, and Clyde backpacks. In the underwear bins, I spotted Araks bathing suits which were probably cheaper at their sample sale last week.
Upstairs there’s plenty of menswear on hand. The cheapest item is the Jungmaven tees ($7-$8) that come in a variety of colors. Other designer tees include John Elliot and Co, Steven Alan, Norse Project, Our Legacy, and Levi Strauss.
A different rack holds the button downs. Designers include, Apiece Apart, Ralph Lauren, Steven Alan, Our Legacy, A.P.C, Levi Strauss and Norse Project.
Men can get a head start on their winter wardrobe. I spotted Acne Studio bomber jackets, A.P.C. wool coats, and Steven Alan zip-up sweaters. There is no dressing room but there is one mirror on the floor. People are trying on in random places. I got hit in the head by a man trying a shirt on in the accessory department!
Compared to the tops and outerwear there is a small selection of pants, and it’s mostly dressy/work appropriate.” – Mushkie of Holy in Mundane
