IF Soho New York Basement Sale

Today (Sunday) is the last day of the IF Soho New York basement sale on Grand Street.  Yesterday, I popped in quickly.  Before walking into the boutique, I spotted Lynn Yaeger in front of the entrance talking on the phone. With the shop’s carefully curated avant-garde pieces, I can see this being a shopping destination for Ms. Yaeger.  I wanted to ask her if she had ventured into the lower level of the store looking for deals, but she was engrossed in her conversation so I walked pass her and made my way inside to check out the offerings downstairs.

The selection was pretty thin – fairly picked over at this point – but there were still a few deals to be had. There were more sales staff than customers on this Saturday afternoon. Designers were grouped together on racks.  Sizing was spotty. Against two walls were pieces from Danish designer, Ivan Grundahl.  For those of you looking to fall and winter, there were some great bargains on jackets and coats ($200-$300). I also spotted an Ann Demeulemeester black silk pants for $324 (originally retailed for $1,080) as well as a Yohji Yamamoto knit blazer for $399 (originally retailed for $1,330) and a Yohji white shirt for $225 (originally retailed for $750). I also saw a Dries van Noten silk skirt for $287.  There were a few pieces from Maison Martin Margiela, including a sleeveless dress going for $264 (originally retailed for $880) and Margiela metallic flats for $225 and wedge for $300. If you’re hoping for additional discounts on the last day… they don’t traditionally slash prices further. But it doesn’t hurt to ask…
