For just one-day, J. Mendel is hosting a sample sale that’s open to the public. It kicks off at 9am today (Thursday). We stopped in during Wednesday’s preview. Those on a budget will not be able to afford much of the deals at this sale.
That said, there were a few bargains worth mentioning such as the deep red leather tank dress (plenty available in a range of sizes). We were told they were priced so low because they had a lot of overstock. These pieces were tagged at $300 (orig. $2,950). Other deals include printed silk charmeuse slim trousers going for $75 (orig. $1,880) and shearling floppy hats for $200 (orig. $1,250).
As expected, there were racks and racks of fur. Be prepared to layout some serious bucks for these items. The pieces that caught our eye were a simple mink grey vest for $4,000 (orig. $16,000) and a chinchilla cropped jacket for $4,500 (pictured above). A mink full-length coat would set you back around $9,500. There were also a number of boleros made of Fox fur, which were tagged at around $850.
Along one wall were a few gorgeous gowns that ranged in price from $850 to $2,000. There were deals on a couple of nice ivory gowns that could be work as a wedding dress (under $1,000). Also available were cocktail dresses, which were tagged at around $500-$700. A couple of styles of bustiers were up for grabs (pythons were around $700).
A very limited selection of handbags and totes were going for $2,000-$6,000. Random runway shoes (size 39 & 40) were also on offer as were a few belts ($150).
If you’re a fan of fur and money is no object, head over to Union Square for deals which can be had just for one day.
