If you didn’t brave the long lines Thursday outside Uniqlo in Soho, you still have a chance to get your hands on Jil Sander’s new garments for the cheap and chic chain.  A new shipment is arriving overnight – just in time for Friday.  Not surprising that by the end of the day Thursday, the merchandise was picked over and the store’s +J section was a mess.

The scoop: wool flannel jackets and coats from $79 to $149; puffer coats for $99; cropped flannel trousers for $59; button-downs for men and women with Sander’s signature small collar for $39; plush cashmere sweaters $99; soft merino wool sweaters from $29 to $49.  The items were available in neutrals; mostly black and different shades of gray, some brown, a smattering of purple and hot pink cashmere sweaters for men.  I snagged a couple of super soft wool sweaters for me and my sister.  I also spotted a number of coats, dresses, pants, skirts and some button-down shirts.  The sizes were spotty; not a lot of XS or S left.  I was also looking for a blazer but there were only two left in size medium.  As for the men’s stuff, last night they had almost nothing left.

Sander has given quality to the masses.  I have to say that  I was impressed to find the clothing to be well made and at such a great price point. That’s not always the case when high-end designers create lines for low-end chains.  Where:  Uniqlo, 546 Broadway, b/w Prince and Spring; (917) 237-8800.
