Before the doors opened this morning for IF Boutique‘s sample sale, a line snaked around the corner of Grand Street. Once everyone was ushered into the basement level, which is where the sale was taking place, it was a mad dash for bargains. Many of the shoppers this morning knew what they were looking for (many appeared to be customers of the store and thus were clued in on the merchandise). Some headed straight for the Ann Demeulemeester rack, some looking for Maison Martin Margiela, while others were on the hunt for the Ivan Grundahl (the label with the most selection and better prices).
Deals of 70 to 85 percent off the original price can be had on a list of high-end avant-garde designers. I spotted the following: Comme des Garcons padded coats for over $500; quite a few Dries Van Noten silk floral dresses and tops for $200 to $300; Ann Demeulemeester light-weight jacket for under $500, leather skirt for around $600, knits (tees) for under $200; Y’s chunky cardigan sweater for around $300; Ivan Grundahl knit pieces and wovens for under $200 (some tops were under $100). As for shoes, there was a limited selection and sizing was spotty. Maison Martin Margiela pumps were under $200, sandals are $200 to $300.
Where/When: 94 Grand St., nr. Greene St.; August 15 to 21. Mon-Sun (11-7p).
