Cole Haan kicked off its sample sale over the weekend at Soiffer Haskin.  When I stopped in, I noticed that the handbags were a huge hit.  Forget the shoes, most of the women went straight for the the two long tables where handbags of all sizes, clutches and wallets lay.  Most bags are 60 percent off:  the Kendal hobo was tagged at $171 (was $428); the Genevieve square hobo was going for $198 (was $495); The Phoebe flap bag in a soft buttery leather was $179 (was $448); the Whitney mini flap bag was priced at $59 (was $148) and much more.  There were great deals on shoes and boots – many of the flats and sandals were under $100 -the Air Clarisa ballet was going for $75 (was $188); Air Lyric ballet at $60 (was $150) and sneakers under $80.  Boots were around $200 or less.  I spotted plenty of the stretch Joana Air tall boots going for $200 (was $498) and many other styles knee length and ankle boots.

The sale is very organized and the staff are helpful.  There’s a color coded pricing system: items with blue dots are 50 percent off, yellow is 60 percent, red is 70 percent and green 75 percent. If you buy three or more shoes or boots, you get 10 percent off the highest priced item.
