Summer is a great time to find good deals when retailers slash prices on this season’s goods. Larry Label Whore stopped into the major high-end department stores and tells us what he found:
“It’s my favorite time of year! The end of season sales at the department stores have started and I’m like a kid in a candy store. I stopped at Bergdorfs, Barneys, Saks, and Bloomingdale’s to check out the deals.
I started at Begdorfs where on the third floor they had men’s high end designer clothes for 75% off retail. Designers on offer included Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Prada, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Etro, and many more. Unfortunately, much of the merch has already been taken, but you can find some great pieces. Nothing quite fit me, but I;m sure there is something for everyone. I found an amazing Gucci shirt marked down to $79, Etro shirts as low as $69, and some great polos from Saint Laurent. There were also nice sweaters, jackets, and pants to check out from all of these designers. One Saint Laurent leather jacket was down to $2,000 from over $7,000. I left with nothing since I didn’t fit anything, but the one Prada and Givenchy shirts I did fit into were a little too much at $149 and $159, respectively.
I then went to Barneys which was also marked down to 75% off! This made me so happy after least season where they only did a 70% off markdown. That 5% makes a huge difference when you’re dealing with hundreds and thousands of dollars. Barneys had many floors to choose from of merchandise, but again the inventory was low. I was surprised to find out they don’t carry Gucci anymore, which I wasn’t happy about. They have every other imaginable designer there that would be too long to list. The best deals were on the 4th floor where there were Dolce & Gabbana shirts for under $90, Paul Smith Made in Italy shirts for under $70, and Jill Sander and Prada sweaters in the $100-$150 range. There was an extremely small selection of shoes for up to 60% off with a few Louboutin styles, but nothing really worth it. Again, I left with nothing.
I then stopped at Bloomingdale’s where they are having an amazing “Mystery Money” sale for an extra 20%, 30%, or 40% off sale items. I was one of the lucky few to get 40% off so I have gotten some great steals in the past week since the sale started. I got an Alexander McQueen MCQ leather biker jacket for $135 from $1,500!!! (I know, I know…) Gucci crystal sneakers for $324 from $900 and a lot of Burberry items including a zip-up sweater for 65. Ferragamo is also included in the sale so I would definitely take advantage of it. You can get some great stuff at dirt cheap prices. I was not happy to find out that they took away Pringle of Scotland, which I guess didn’t sell well.
I didn’t have time to stop at Saks on Fifth Ave, but I stopped by the one near me at the Short Hills Mall in NJ. The selection was extremely small and nothing really to see. The one in NYC always has racks and racks of goodies that you can’t get at the other stores (like Ferragamo and Ralph Lauren Purple Label clothes) even though it’s only down to 70% off. There’s usually a great selection of shoes, but they’re only down to 55% off right now.
All in all, I would definitely stop by all of the stores to check out the great prices. The best, as I always say, is definitely Bloomingdale’s. You can’t beat an extra 20-40% off sale items, especially Burberry and Ferragamo. Happy Shopping!” -Larry Label Whore
