I stopped into the Halston sample sale on Spring Street Tuesday morning and found some beautiful pieces. There were racks of actual production samples and one-of-a-kinds.
You’ll find deals on shoes, handbags and two racks of clothing. Sample shoes from the fall collection are on sale for $75, including cute suede ballet flats embellished with a stylish Halston gold plate on the toe. Lots of strappy high-heeled sandals were also on offer. Plus, suede boots for $150 and ankle boots at $100. Spring shoes are priced at $185.  One major negative: most shoes are size 37. A few 36, 38, 39 and 40. A box containing buttery leather handbags (taupe and gray) were going for just $150. The spring handbags were gorgeous and not badly priced $250 to $395.
As for the clothing, I found two racks of samples where tops were priced at $150, shirts $75, pants $150 and dresses $295. A rack of lovely evening dresses were going for $595.  The showroom had lots of other merchandise on sale (feminine flowy tops and dresses) but the prices for those items were a little steep. A red silk chiffon kimono-sleeved top for $395 caught my eye, as well as a turquoise silk chiffon top for $495.
Where/When:Â 96 Spring St., b/t Broadway & Mercer St., 2nd flr. July 7-9, Tues – Thurs 9am-7pm.

on July 7, 2009 11:19 amWow you get out early :-)
Sounds awesome. I went last year and it was super expensive with tons of clothing. But this time it looks like a true sample sale with just a couple of racks. Great pics too!
Auggh, was headed to gym but guess I'll have to take a detour. Curious, Gilt.com has a Halston sale starting tomorrow. Hmmm.
Thanks for the info.

on July 7, 2009 2:10 pmI noticed that Gilt Groupe was having a sale tomorrow too. Do you think its still worth it to go to the sample sale? Not sure what Gilt's prices will be in comparison...
If anyone needs an invite to Gilt, you can use mine-

And yes, if you buy something, I get a $25 credit. But so do you when people use your link!

on July 7, 2009 3:29 pmI think it's still worth checking out the Halston sale in Soho. I've noticed that Gilt prices can be a little more pricier than at the sample sales... If you're a 37, the shoes are really worth it. Also, you'll be able to try the clothes on at the sale...

on July 7, 2009 6:05 pmI bought a couple of tops and a pair of shoes. I can tell you the shoes seem to run pretty small and I'd be annoyed if I'd bought these shoes online in my true size only to find out they are too small.
