We heard all the negatives about this season’s Barneys Warehouse Sale. Being an optimistic bargain hunter, I wanted to have a look for myself.
We checked out the women’s merchandise on the main floor. First stop, shoes. By Monday, the discount was down an additional 25% off the sale price. A change from last sale – the larger shoes are closer to the cash registers. I noticed lots of high heels, wedges and sandals. Plus a few selection of boots.
There was plenty of Barneys Co-op footwear and some high-end designer such as Pierre Hardy heels at $419 (orig. $1,395), wedges from Bottega Veneta (now $246, orig. $820), Jil Sander (now $239, orig. $795) and Miu Miu strappy snakeskin wedges (now $299, orig. $990). Depending on the size, there were duplicates of styles such as Greek-style Ann Demeulemeester flat sandals (now $306, orig. $1,035). Despite some of the heavy-hitting designers, nothing inspired me.
Women’s clothing selection was very disappointing. The apparel was separated by style (tops, bottoms, dresses, etc). That meant, those looking for specific labels had to waste time sifting through the racks. I took a few minutes hoping to find something that caught my eye. The only notable designer, I spotted in my size was a Lanvin silk strapless dress on sale for $699. A ridiculous price since the piece was terribly wrinkled and manhandled.
Handbags were not any better… Although, there were several Lanvin leather bags – a small black cross-body was on sale for just under $700. Too bad that this once legendary sale is going out with a bust…
