Through this Wednesday (January 25th), Bloomingdale’s is hosting its winter sale & clearance online and in stores. With the first significant snowstorm to hit New York City this season, the store on 3rd Avenue was fairly quiet for a Saturday. It was a good time for fellow shopper, Laura, to check out the offerings. Here’s her findings:
It was fairly quiet yesterday afternoon at the Vena Cava sample sale… I walked in just as they were starting to mark down the Viva Vena fall 2010 dresses to $45. As you walk into the second floor space on Broome Street in Soho, you’ll find bins on the floor with white checkerboard dresses going for $15, tanks & tees for $20, a mix of sample dresses for $40, scarves for $50 and more. The selection for samples looked picked over.
Inside the main room, there were still plenty of dresses and tops on offer. Spring 2010 pieces range in price from $50 to $125. Current fall Vena Cava dresses are a bit more at $145 or $195 depending on the style. Black puffer coats and dark gray cape wool jackets are $275. Pieces for the diffusion line Viva Vena (made with organic jerseys and mixed with silk details) are cheaper – dresses have been marked down to $45, tees are $20, and sweatshirts are $40. On these racks, I spotted quite a few dresses printed with Vena Cava’s signature hand-drawn prints and neo-Dada photo collages.
Up the street from Project No. 8 is Gargyle’s end-of-season clearance sale where you’ll find items from Acne, Rachel Comey, Vena Cava, Surface to Air, United Bamboo and more for up to 85 percent off. I stopped in over the weekend. A few things caught my eye such as a Vena Cava top ($150) and dress ($175) and a pair of Surface to Air sandals ($150). But nothing else was exciting. Sale ends Sunday at 7pm. You can also find the sale online. Where/When: Gargyle, 16A Orchard St (b/w Canal & Hester) 917-470-9367. Thru Sunday August 15th Daily (11-7p). First off, I have to say forget about trying to score on samples at the Vena Cava sample sale. When I arrived at the Soho showroom after work, the so-called “old samples” in the box really looked old and pathetic, something you’d find at a Salvation Army thrift store. Not surprising that the $20 deals were snapped up earlier in the day. However, if you’re a fan of Vena Cava, you will find something here. There were regular stock items on offer. I spotted quite a few iconic VC silk dresses ($175). I was tempted to walk away with one but I eventually put it down after telling myself that I really need to curb after all the sample sale shopping lately. There were a few tops for $125, sweaters, vests and leather leggings are going for $150, jersey dresses are $100, short-sleeve leather jackets are $450 and shoes (collaborated with Via Spiga) are $75 a pair. I did hear a staffer say they will be restocking on sizes but not styles. Where/When: 457 Broome St., nr. Greene St., Ste. 2F, buzzer 3; June 17 – 19; Th–F (11–7pm), S (11–5pm).
Men’s shop Odin and women’s boutique Pas de Deux have joined forces this week for an end-of-season sample sale. They’ve set up a space next to the SoHo Odin store where you can find a cool mix of merchandise from past seasons priced at up to 70 percent off. If you haven’t stopped into the Opening Ceremony sample sale in NoLita, today is your last chance when the doors open at Noon. When I popped in yesterday morning, there was still so much merchandise on racks and in boxes. Further discounts on one label, Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchocovitch was being offered – an [...] |
