When I got word Intermix was marking down their sale items another 50% off the sale price, I headed over to the uptown outpost (1003 Madison at 77^th Street) to check out what designer goods they had on sale.  The prices were excellent but my experience was mauled by some pretty atrocious customer service.

No greeting, nothing after walking into the store and it only got worse from there.  The sales people chatted among themselves and seemed put-out when I asked for sizes.  When I asked about further discounts and how much various items cost the sales girl told me simply “I don’t know” which put me in the awkward position of having to ask “ok well can we figure it out.”

I love Intermix at much as the next girl.  They have a fabulous selection of designer merchandise BUT a lot of it can be purchased at a bunch of other stores in NYC.  I get it they probably work on commission and are looking for a bigger sale but its just not excusable for shoppers to be treated like intruders.

With that being said there is some good stuff on sale including theory pants marked down to $75, pretty equipment blouses (only in m,l) for $90, Chloe pants for $200 and a gorgeous silver sweater from Joseph for $114.  There were Bottega flats and a few accessories in the 50% off section as well.

Considering the poor treatment Laura got from the Madison Avenue staff, you might want to skip that store and go to another one in New York City.  However, the Yelp reviews of the Flatiron location is equally bad.

Through this Wednesday (January 25th), Bloomingdale’s is hosting its winter sale & clearance online and in stores.  With the first significant snowstorm to hit New York City this season, the store on 3rd Avenue was fairly quiet for a Saturday.  It was a good time for fellow shopper, Laura, to check out the offerings.  Here’s her findings:

I headed over to Bloomingdale’s to check out their additional 40% and 50% discounts on designer merchandise.  Maybe because I just saw the designer consolidation sale at Saks Fifth Avenue and insane markdowns at Neimanmarcus.com you could say expectations were high.  At Bloomingdale’s the store was quiet for a Saturday especially the contemporary section. What I did see was almost every section from Marc by Marc to DVF to Joie to Theory to Alice and Olivia having a lot of merchandise marked at 40% off.  It didn’t all look exclusively “winter” either some of the sections had work appropriate items that could definitely be pushed into spring.

There was a pretty sheer windowpane print Theory silk top at 40% off of $225.  There was a fun Madison Marcus dress at 40% off of $305.  As well as a huge rack of Vince corduroys and sweaters all marked down.  In the middle of the floor jumbled together were racks marked an additional 50% off the sale price.  There was a lot of Vena Cava, Edun and few Elizabeth and James pieces on these racks.  The items were random but there was one pretty silk animal print E & J blouse marked an additional 50% off.    In the denim section, they were running a special on velvet and corduroy Miha jeans for $99; there were a few racks of discounted Aqua as well.  Overall, it seems like if there’s nothing you’ve had your eye on your best bet is to wait for spring merchandise to fill the floor and skip on the random in-between pieces.

I made a quick stop into the Theory sale in Soho on Wednesday… the discount is still at 70-percent off and there was a lot of merchandise left.  A new shipment of goods just arrived when we got there.  Staffers were taking the boxes into the back room so they could replenish the sales floor.

There were lots of Theory basics (knits, sweaters, pants and blazers) as well as Helmut Lang pieces, including coats (Mongolian fur jacket is now $465, was $1550; puffer jackets for $210, was $700; shearling coat for $975, was $3250; knit/felt coat for $328, was $1095).  There were also Theyskens Theory garments hanging on racks and boxes of shoes and handbags (Theyskens small messenger in suede (now $208) and pony hair (now $253).

The sale is suppose to go through this Sunday… in the past Theory has extended the sale and on the last day, they’ve been known to offer further discounts.

The large space on Mercer Street in Soho was fairly calm this morning as Theory‘s public sale got underway.  It was a breeze getting in. No line and no coat or bag check.

Lots of merchandise (clothing, shoes and bags at 70-percent off retail) from the main Theory line, Theyskens’ Theory as well as Helmut Lang.  While this is a sale on women’s stuff, I did spot a guy going through the shoes.  He appeared to be on the phone with someone, describing the offerings.

This is being called a “sample sale.”  But, I didn’t see any actual samples.  Mostly stock to be had.  Here’s a list of items I spotted:

Theyskens Theory:   Jistor shearling jacket $598 ($1995); the Jagat leather jacket $478.50 ($1595); Mici wool coat $298 ($995); Dilliam metallic brocade mini dress $223.50 ($745) Parcos leather pants $345 ($1150); the Yash cashmere cardigan $130.50 ($435).

Theory:   A corduroy jacket $136 ($455); Albinibi chunky sweater $127.50 ($425); Teofil sweater $79.50 ($265); Minina C suiting pant $85.50 ($285); Emery pant $79.50 ($265); Alania basic l/s knit $31.50 ($105), Lainnie tank $31.50 ($105), Malory tanks $19.50 ($65).

Helmut Lang:  Fur vest $358.50 ($1195); leather vest $358.50 ($1195); fur cardigan $435 ($1450); stretch knit dresses $108 ($360); jersey felt dress $178.50 ($595).

The footwear were mostly Theyskens Theory:  Taylor boot $118.50 ($395); Stil Boot $127 ($425); Crop boot $148.50 ($495); flats (same ones from a previous sample sale) tagged at $88.50 ($295).

The dressing rooms can be found in the back of the space.  There really was a lot of merchandise so if you can’t make it today, you have another week to check out the sale.

A brisk and busy start to the Helmut Lang + Theyskens’ Theory fall sample sale today…  the 2nd floor of the brand’s showroom in the Flatiron is filled with plenty of merchandise, hung neatly by style on racks.  You’ll find the price lists tacked on the walls as well as sale signs for key garments placed on racks (very organized!).

Let’s get down to what’s on offer… urban cool in blacks, grays, tans, browns (and a smattering of muted colors here and there).  The Theyskens’ Theory goods are in the front of the space near the door … Helmut Lang in the middle and toward the cash registers and dressing room.

I’ll begin with Theyskens: Dresses are $229 (were $495 to $595), Blazers are also $229 (were $595), a light-weight basic cashmere sweater is $129 (was $495), outerwear (great wool coats) for $299 (were $795 to $995), organza skirts are $199 (were $495 and $795).

Now onto Helmut Lang: Dresses are going for $99-$159 (including a long asymmetrical dress with leather cap trim sleeve retailed for $495); denim/leggins are $79 (was $265), Outerwear is $329 (includes the Eon Jacket trimmed with leather which retailed for $874); a puffer coat is $329 (was $700).

Here’s the scoop on accessories:  Scarves are $99, gloves are $49, belts $39, and handbags are $159.  (If you need a complete picture of pricing, check out the price list in the gallery for each label)…

Sale goes through this Saturday… with all the stuff up for grabs, I wouldn’t be surprised if they offered further reductions this weekend.

We’re hearing that sale organizers have slashed prices at the Helmut Lang & Theyskens Theory sample sale in Soho, which was extended through today.  A tipster reported getting an extra 25 percent off on her purchases yesterday.  We can’t confirm this.  But if you’re aware, let us know… since many of us have been waiting for further reductions.  Here’s our review from the VIP day last week when a trusted tipster sent photos including the price lists.

The Helmut Lang + Theyskens’ Theory women’s sample sale opens to the public tomorrow.  But some of you bought a $20 ticket from Gilt City to get in a day early – today.  One of our readers was just there and she sends us a report with photos (including the price lists).  Our tipster, “P,” got up at 6am to get to the sale and she says it was well worth it:

“…There is a doorman who is checking tickets. However he is a really nice and talkative guy, when I went to pick up some bags that we had checked he was distracted and someone walked in off the street who probably didn’t have a ticket. However, he will turn you away if he catches you.

I was really there for Theyskens. Tons of stuff from current season (I mean it’s only like, 3 seasons old or something) but it was awesome and I was pleasantly surprised by the prices, especially the shoes – only $150! I walked out with three pairs — new short black boots since my winter boots are wrecked, these white linen wedges and these as well. The white linen wedges were a birthday gift from a friend who was there with me J. The Dotta dress is there ($129) and I tried it on but it was enormous on me.

There is one rack of $20 Helmut Lang samples along the back wall, mostly pants and bottoms — there were just a few tops left there by the time I left. However, even the leather leggings on this rack were only $20! My friend walked out with three pairs.

I was this close to buying the Buci top, but it was $89 instead of $59 like I thought it would be, so I passed. Relatively not crowded today and no line to get in, no line for the dressing room and an ever-shortening line to pay as I left.

The sale goes through Monday June 20th.  If you stop in today or anytime this week, let us know what you find…
