Thursday is the last day of the Theory & Helmut Lang womenswear sale at Clothingline. As I reported earlier this week, the Garment District space had loads of merchandise at bargain basement prices. Some of it was damaged. But if you looked carefully, you’ll find some pretty good basics. If you’re in the market [...]
Clothingline is hosting a Theory and Helmut Lang sale this week in the Garment District. You’ll find actual samples and what sale organizers call “slight irregulars” for up to 90-percent off. The space was very busy late yesterday as fans of the the two brands rushed over after [...]
Though it be unbearably hot out, sample sale season is cooling off now that summer is here. You won’t find many sample sales this week. One of the few being held is the Privé sample sale at Chelsea Market. I checked out the goods last night and found a mishmash of merchandise for [...]
Artsy Anna wasn’t completely bowled over by the women’s Theory sample sale which kicked off today in the Garment District. She checked out the merchandise at lunchtime and found plenty of summer season-appropriate attire. Here’s what she had to say:
It’s been a long time since my last visit to Clothingline and it seems they’ve learned a thing or two about how to run a better sale. For one thing, try-ons of most items, such as dresses are allowed. In the past, especially for J.Crew sales, Clothingline does not permit use of the fitting room. Instead of hanging the items (which makes them stretched out and shopworn), knits are folded in cello wrap and placed on tables. You take a number and when you’re called, you place your order. While sale organizers let you try on other garments, try-ons of knits are NOT allowed.
I stopped by during the 12-1 lunch hour rush and found around 60 shoppers and another 40 people in line to pay. I saw lots of nice wear-now basics but prices are equivalent to department store sale prices, good but not enough to entice me! The good news, plenty of small sizes including full racks of 00s, 0s, and some of tiniest 4s I’ve ever seen.
Anna wasn’t impressed with the prices but they usually drop during the last days of the sale. Right now, dresses are $109, pants $99, blouses $79, outerwear $199 and shoes $69. Sale goes through next Wednesday June 9th.

Clothingline in Midtown is hosting a Theory sample sale this week selling off women’s and men’s actual samples and what sale organizers describe as “slight irregulars.” The headline says it all – damaged goods. Almost every garment I picked up had a hole, rip, torn, or thread pull [...]

Clothingline appears to be the dumping ground for designers desperate to unload their merchandise, despite the condition of the garments. That was [...]
