Shop for a Good Cause at the Housing Works Fashion for Action

Thursday, the Housing Works’ Fashion for Action shopping event opens to the public at the Altman Building in Chelsea.  It’s an opportunity to shop 150 brands for a great cause at charitable prices (50 to 70 percent off).

This year, Thom Browne and Co-Chairs Patricia Clarkson, Eva Jeanbart-Lorenzotti, and Rachel Roy kicked off the fundraiser with a VIP shopping preview and cocktail party… Our trusted reader, Deme, attended the preview.  She took photos (including snapshots of Thom Browne & Rachel Roy)… and she gives us an idea of what can be had:

The event was bi-level with the first floor more esthetically pleasing and inviting.  The lower level housed the dressing rooms and your standard Housing Works racks.

Nearly half of the merchandise was Black Fleece by Brooks Brothers.  It felt great knowing purchases were going towards a good cause although I couldn’t help notice that Black Fleece prices were increased from last year’s event (BF women’s sweaters at $150, BF women’s coats $400, BF women’s blazers at $300, men’s BF button down shirts at $60 and more).

Further Markdowns on Designer Consignment Goods at INA

The high-end consignment shop, INA, is offering additional discounts of 25 percent off the already marked down goods through the weekend.

I stumbled on the additional reductions yesterday at the location on Bleecker Street in Noho.  Items with the extra discount have a red dotted sticker.   Not many of the shoes were additionally marked down but I did spot quite a few designer dresses, tops and denim such as (after the discount):  a Stella McCartney dress for $122, Jill Stuart dress at $72,  See by Chloe tunic for $94, a Missoni top for $88, a Prada top for $225 and a linen Chanel dress tagged at $524.  There were also a few handbags such as a Marc Jacobs bag for $175, and a Fendi tote for $123.

Tipster Report: Just nix the Intermix Sale…

Bargain shopper, Sample Sale Diva, ventured into the Intermix store in Soho yesterday to see what kind of selection they had left on their winter sale.  Her hopes were dashed as soon as she went in.  The Diva tells us it was “one big FAIL”:

…Basically, they put all the rejects of many high-end brands in one little corner and marked the prices down… between 50 to 70% off.  I saw Balmain, Stella McCartney, Helmut Lang, lots of Elizabeth and James, J Brand, Intermix,  Valentino Red, Rag & Bone, Proenza Schouler and a few other random designers.  The cheapest item that I saw was Stella McCartney’s head horse tank tops for $49.  I saw a pretty McQueen2 dress for $149.  The Balmain was in the $600 range and the J Brand jeans were $59 to $89.  Elizabeth and James were between $99 and $149.  I saw a few Proenza Schouler dresses (nice) for $199.

VIDEO: Barneys Warehouse Sale – Day 1

The Barneys Warehouse Sale is undeniably one of the biggest sales in New York City.  It’s always mobbed, especially on the first day.  This season was no different as Racked reported this morning while line blogging with the early birds standing in line an hour before the doors opened.  I showed up before 10am to find no line.  However, the scene inside was madness.  No surprise that the women’s shoe section was crowded.

Women shoes can be found in the same place as usual right when you walk in.  This time, sale organizers are offering an additional 25 percent off items with the “BLUE” stamp.  I spotted a few shoes with the blue stamp, including a Marc Jacobs pump that was already on sale for under $150.  I was told that those items are from previous seasons which is why there’s an extra discount.  As for the selection in footwear, as usual plenty of designer sandals and heels with a smattering of boots.  I spotted a pair of Balenciaga super high heeled gladiators for $500 (my friend picked up the same pair during last winter’s sale for $150).  I also saw a few Lanvin pumps from two seasons ago going for $400.  There’s a few Loub flat sandals, wedges and heels, Lanvin cut-out slingbacks, Prada wedges, sandals and heels, Chloe, Costume National, Pierre Hardy, Rochas, Robert Clergerie, Stella McCartney, and more.  There’s a lot of product and you have to spend the time to really look.

Outsider Gets into the Stella McCartney Friends & Family Sale

A tipster who managed to get into the Stella McCartney friends and family sale in Midtown just sent us some photos.  She wasn’t on the list but she had no problems getting in.  She tells us it’s a great sale with a lot of loot to be had.  Plus, the sales staff are apparently friendly and helpful (thanks to Ashley who let her take these pictures!)  Feast your eyes on the photos of handbags, footwear, jeans, belts and more.  Our tipster reports deals of 50 to 80 percent off… all footwear is under $200 (tons of size 37s and 36s).  A strappy heel (were originally $795) are now $160.  She also reports many of the handbags are under $200.  But she didn’t like the bag choices, describing them as being “too plasticky.”  Jeans are $50.  Sale ends today (August 18th) at 8pm.
