It’s a bit unorthodox to have a sample sale inside a church gymnasium. But that’s where the Rachel Comey sale is being held through Friday inside the St. Patricks Cathedral gym in Nolita. I thought the space looked odd especially since they didn’t have enough merchandise to fill it.
Yesterday, I stopped in for the sale preview… You won’t find any sweaty socks or jockstraps here. What you’ll find are rows and rows of boxes filled with Comey’s well-crafted shoes (made in South America) which are a big draw. The best deals are shoes displayed on the floor by size which are going for $100/pair or 3 for $250. Some of these looked like samples and others looked the worse for wear. If you can’t find anything here, just turn around and you’ll see plenty of footwear inside boxes stacked in the middle of the room. They’re organized by style: sandals/Oxfords are $190, wedges/heels $215 and boots are $200.

The Helmut Lang women’s sample sale is well underway today at Chelsea Market. Prive is hosting the event and offering up to 65% off the original retail price. Artsy Anna checked out the sale today. We’re glad to have her back! Here’s her report:
Prepare to get in line at the Helmut Lang sale if you plan to go today. The queue to check out wrapped all around the sale room when I stopped by at 1 pm. Offerings at the sale seem pretty standard with strappy and ruched tanks running from $59-$79. Knit and woven dresses are $129-$179. Jackets and leather items are $300 and up.
If you missed out on the Tibi sample sale last week, here’s your chance at getting your hands on the label’s colorful pieces. The sale moved online and goes through to Memorial Day. On the site, we found quite a few dresses, including the silk color-block dress (now $190, was $475), the Arabella tiered dress (now $269, was $895). There was also the Cheetah coat (now $146, was $495). Also, on offer is the cropped cable sweater (now $119, was $375). If you’re a regular reader to my blog, you’ll know how much I love lingerie. Just can’t get enough. For that reason, I couldn’t miss the Araks sample sale. I’ve always been a fan of designer Araks Yeramyan’s soft stylish sensual underthings (made with natural fibers in the USA). Her pieces offer clean, minimalist lines in fashion-forward colors (bright, primary colors and dark, somber shades).
The sale got underway to a busy start but the shopping rush was quick as the showroom had cleared after an hour of opening the doors. Girls trying to get in some shopping before work. Many of the customers seemed to know what they wanted.
