Proenza Schouler One-Day Sample Sale…

Just today until 9pm, Proenza Schouler is hosting a sample sale in a large open airy loft space in Soho.  If you’ve been to the label’s previous sample sales, this one isn’t on the 8th floor showroom, today it’s being held on the 3rd floor of 495 Broadway.

This morning, the space was fairly chill, no crowds just a few shoppers going through the racks of clothing along the walls, organized by style.

Tipster’s Take: La Garçonne Warehouse Sale

I have to thank fellow shopper, Deme, who saved me the trip and checked out the La Garçonne Warehouse sale yesterday…  When I saw the list of designers (Maison Martin Margiela, Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang, Vanessa Bruno and more), I must say I was tempted.  But after reading her account (I trust her opinion on sales!), I’m not sure I’m heading over there now.  She was so put off by the display of the apparel that she stuck to shoes… Here’s Deme’s scoop:

I have never seen a more unappealing layout for clothing.  You have to seriously want to find something to be willing to pull out each item individually just to get an idea of what it looks like.  Pricing on clothing was up to 75% off but the items I liked were still a few hundred dollars so I concentrated on shoes.

Barneys Warehouse Sale: Women’s Designer Clothing on Day One

We continue our Barneys Warehouse Sale coverage with a look at women’s designer clothing… I was happy to see that the women’s stuff is back on the main floor – a much better location than the dingy basement level (organizers must have listened to complaints from last winter’s sale).

Now onto the goods… which the first thing I noticed is the depleted selection of women’s designer duds.  In previous sales, they’ve had racks and racks of merchandise.  Not this year, just a smaller section near the exit.  Plus, there wasn’t as many designers on offer.  The selection was so limited this time around that the racks have been organized by size instead of label.

The Line This Morning at the Proenza Schouler Sample Sale…

Check out the line outside the Proenza Schouler sample sale in Soho this morning…  It wasn’t that long but they were slow in letting in people.  I waited about 30 minutes and decided I needed to get to work!

Actual samples and overstock from current spring and summer as well as [...]

Barneys Warehouse Sale… a Busy Weekend With Further Reductions

The latest markdowns at the Barneys Warehouse Sale brought out the crowds over the weekend to Chelsea.  Women’s designer, shoes, lingerie and swimwear are now an additional 25 percent off the sale price.  The gents are getting a better deal with the discount now at an extra 40 percent off designer duds, sportswear, outerwear (including leather).  Men’s sportscoats, tuxedos and ties are at an additional 25 percent off.  We stopped in on Saturday to find no line but a very crowded scene inside… with shoppers pawing through the racks and shoe stacks.  The sale ends on Sunday… expect even more reductions.

VIDEO: Barneys Warehouse Sale…A look at women’s shoes

I ventured into the Barneys Warehouse Sale before noon today just to scope out the goodies.  I rarely ever buy anything on the first day.  I usually wait for the additional markdowns to take out my wallet.  I found no line when I arrived.  I came with a small bag so [...]

Tipster Report: Just nix the Intermix Sale…

Bargain shopper, Sample Sale Diva, ventured into the Intermix store in Soho yesterday to see what kind of selection they had left on their winter sale.  Her hopes were dashed as soon as she went in.  The Diva tells us it was “one big FAIL”:

…Basically, they put all the rejects of many high-end brands in one little corner and marked the prices down… between 50 to 70% off.  I saw Balmain, Stella McCartney, Helmut Lang, lots of Elizabeth and James, J Brand, Intermix,  Valentino Red, Rag & Bone, Proenza Schouler and a few other random designers.  The cheapest item that I saw was Stella McCartney’s head horse tank tops for $49.  I saw a pretty McQueen2 dress for $149.  The Balmain was in the $600 range and the J Brand jeans were $59 to $89.  Elizabeth and James were between $99 and $149.  I saw a few Proenza Schouler dresses (nice) for $199.

A Nod to Edon Manor: Delectable Designer Shoes are 60% Off

The January sales are in full swing… This week, the English-styled Tribeca shop, Edon Manor, is offering further markdowns on the store’s fall/winter shoes and accessories.  I stopped in about a week ago when they were offering 50 percent off… now the discount has hit 60 percent.

Alexander Wang’s Tasha boot (seen above) is now $304 (was $760) and the Anabella boot is $260 (was $650).  The Proenza Schouler black flat ankle boot is $398 (was $995), the Dries Van Noten pump is marked down to $259.20 (was $648), the Chloe cognac ankle boot is now $340 (was $850).  There are also accessories such as a Dries Van Noten clutch going for $236.40 (was $591) and Jil Stuart scarves in cream and black for $239.20 (were $598).  If you’re in the neighborhood, it’s worth checking out.  The store is quite lovely (fashioned after an English library)…

Update: More on the Proenza Schouler Sample Sale

As I mentioned earlier, the Proenza Schouler fall/winter 2010 sample sale was picked over this morning.  I have to agree with one of our readers who also stopped in today, commenting that most of the good stuff must have been snapped up at the preview sale (which the PS folks tell us took place on Friday).  What was left was not so much the dregs but a limited selection of apparel, no shoes and the handbags on offer were from last spring’s sample sale.  There were no great deals (although tees from past seasons were starting at $25) or many samples left.

Here’s what I found…starting with dresses which were hanging on one rack on a far corner.  A modest selection of silk dresses (mostly solids) were ranging in price from $150 to $210.  Colorful print cocktail dresses were $330+.  A leather bustier dress was $1000+.  A chunky sweater dress was $320 (there were only 3 on the table).  Wool coats were $375+, wool blazers (mostly black) were starting at $230 (for a lighter weight silk/wool blend).  A shag coat was $930.  Pants started at $150 and went up… suede pants were $390.  I did like a couple of the dresses but they were just too pricey for me.  I was told that all the merchandise is out and that they will not be restocking.
