Just today until 9pm, Proenza Schouler is hosting a sample sale in a large open airy loft space in Soho. If you’ve been to the label’s previous sample sales, this one isn’t on the 8th floor showroom, today it’s being held on the 3rd floor of 495 Broadway. This morning, the space was fairly chill, no crowds just a few shoppers going through the racks of clothing along the walls, organized by style. I have to thank fellow shopper, Deme, who saved me the trip and checked out the La Garçonne Warehouse sale yesterday… When I saw the list of designers (Maison Martin Margiela, Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang, Vanessa Bruno and more), I must say I was tempted. But after reading her account (I trust her opinion on sales!), I’m not sure I’m heading over there now. She was so put off by the display of the apparel that she stuck to shoes… Here’s Deme’s scoop:
Bargain shopper, Sample Sale Diva, ventured into the Intermix store in Soho yesterday to see what kind of selection they had left on their winter sale. Her hopes were dashed as soon as she went in. The Diva tells us it was “one big FAIL”:
The January sales are in full swing… This week, the English-styled Tribeca shop, Edon Manor, is offering further markdowns on the store’s fall/winter shoes and accessories. I stopped in about a week ago when they were offering 50 percent off… now the discount has hit 60 percent. Alexander Wang’s Tasha boot (seen above) is now $304 (was $760) and the Anabella boot is $260 (was $650). The Proenza Schouler black flat ankle boot is $398 (was $995), the Dries Van Noten pump is marked down to $259.20 (was $648), the Chloe cognac ankle boot is now $340 (was $850). There are also accessories such as a Dries Van Noten clutch going for $236.40 (was $591) and Jil Stuart scarves in cream and black for $239.20 (were $598). If you’re in the neighborhood, it’s worth checking out. The store is quite lovely (fashioned after an English library)…
As I mentioned earlier, the Proenza Schouler fall/winter 2010 sample sale was picked over this morning. I have to agree with one of our readers who also stopped in today, commenting that most of the good stuff must have been snapped up at the preview sale (which the PS folks tell us took place on Friday). What was left was not so much the dregs but a limited selection of apparel, no shoes and the handbags on offer were from last spring’s sample sale. There were no great deals (although tees from past seasons were starting at $25) or many samples left.
Here’s what I found…starting with dresses which were hanging on one rack on a far corner. A modest selection of silk dresses (mostly solids) were ranging in price from $150 to $210. Colorful print cocktail dresses were $330+. A leather bustier dress was $1000+. A chunky sweater dress was $320 (there were only 3 on the table). Wool coats were $375+, wool blazers (mostly black) were starting at $230 (for a lighter weight silk/wool blend). A shag coat was $930. Pants started at $150 and went up… suede pants were $390. I did like a couple of the dresses but they were just too pricey for me. I was told that all the merchandise is out and that they will not be restocking. |
