 The Miguelina sale in the Garment District was quiet on Monday when I stopped in to check out the markdowns. The frigid weather may have kept shoppers away. In fact, I wasn’t in the mood to look at silk summery lace-trimmed clothing after coming in from the freezing cold.
The label’s fall 2010 and past collections are discounted. Signature Miguelina silk halter tops and cotton peasant tops are starting at $50. Tunics are going for $75. Dresses are ranging from $95 for summer styles to $195 for cocktail and party dresses. Skirts are ranging from $60 to $150 and jackets are starting at $80. There wasn’t as much merchandise as in previous sales and I really didn’t see anything special. In the past, there were interesting pieces up for grabs… amazing evening dresses. One season, I bought a diaphanous silk chiffon dress tastefully trimmed with rhinestones. This time, I was disappointed with what was on offer.

While Artsy Anna was making the sample sale rounds on Monday, she managed to check out the Miguelina showroom on West 36th Street to find a lackluster sale…
Miguelina’s showroom was empty (save for the staffers).  A bright, cheery reception area lead to a dimly lit and instantly depressing windowless room–very out of character with the brand’s usually flirty, bright, and fun-in-the-sun beach vibe. How funny that, even though I was the only customer at the sale, I was asked to check my bag. The poor lighting made it very difficult to see the clothing. But I didn’t come across any must haves. Long silk dress are $115-$125, “novelty” cocktail dresses are $65-$110, silk tops are $35, and items in the miscellaneous sample bin are $10-$25.
