The sale at the Manolo Blahnik boutique on West 54th Street just got better this week. But with the final markdowns also come the crowds… A short line had formed outside the shop an hour before closing on Monday. Once inside, it was madness. Shoes and boxes all over the floor. Women were frantically looking for something in their size. And sales associates trying to keep up!
After hearing about the Manolo Blahnik end-of-season sale, I thought I’d head over to the boutique on West 54th Street to see what’s left. What I found was an abundant selection of shoes (strappy high heels and sandals, kitten heels and flats… in leather, suede, pony hair, alligator; as well as boots – high and ankle length). Most of the footwear are still at 50-percent off the original retail price but there were also some styles for 60-percent off.
I received the alert today that the Barneys markdown is now up to 75-percent off on “select” fall/winter merchandise. My question is: on what?! After work, I made my way over to the Madison Avenue store, just to see what actually was discounted and by how much?
The madness began today at the semi-annual Barneys Warehouse Sale in Chelsea. While it’s best to wait until the last week for the best deals, die-hard shoppers were lined up at the crack of dawn. I made it inside around 10am this morning. My intention was to survey the merchandise and to see if there were any gems. The Nolita boutique, AvaMaria, is hosting a blowout sale this weekend, offloading tons of overstock. We’ve published previous reports on this small shop on Crosby Street. The proprietor, Katherine, stocks up on designer goods offering some choice labels such as Manolo Blahniks, Christian Louboutin, Dolce & Gabbana, Sonia Rykiel, Donna Karan, Catherine Malandrino, Paul & Joe, Mara Hoffman and more. Sale starts today and goes through on Sunday. Worth checking out if you’re in the neighborhood.
For just two days, VPL designer Victoria Bartlett is hosting a one-of-a-kind vintage sale at her boutique on Mercer Street in Soho. Wednesday night, Victoria was gracious in allowing me a sneak peek at the pieces up for grabs at the so-called Vintage Affair. I took photos of the merchandise as well as the designer herself as she was pricing the garments.

The latest markdowns at the Barneys Warehouse Sale brought out the crowds over the weekend to Chelsea. Women’s designer, shoes, lingerie and swimwear are now an additional 25 percent off the sale price. The gents are getting a better deal with the discount now at an extra 40 percent off designer duds, sportswear, outerwear (including leather). Men’s sportscoats, tuxedos and ties are at an additional 25 percent off. We stopped in on Saturday to find no line but a very crowded scene inside… with shoppers pawing through the racks and shoe stacks. The sale ends on Sunday… expect even more reductions. A reader just sent us a slew of photos from the Manolo Blahnik boutique on W. 54th Street where the discount this week has dropped down to 50 percent off the original price. She tells us that they have plenty of styles left, especially boots.
