NYC Sample Sales – Proenza Schouler, Vivienne Westwood, Scoop NYC

A bit of a slow start to this week’s sample sales in New York City… but there are a few worth checking out:

We begin with the end of the week where a highly-anticipated sample sale by Proenza Schouler kicks off in Soho. We hear that they’ll have pieces from fall 2012 and past season samples (that means a few one-of-a-kind items).  Sale prices range from $30-$1,950.  Last sale was mobbed and merchandise began to thin out on the first day.  Where/When:  76 74 Mercer St (b/w Spring & Broome Sts), NY, NY; April 26-27, Daily (10am-6pm).

Disappointing Markdowns at the Loro Piana Sale

Today (Thursday) is your last chance at getting a deal on Loro Piana at Soiffer Haskin.  The sale ends at 5pm this afternoon. That said, I question whether the merchandise is that much of a bargain. I made a quick stop this morning just to see what the markdown was like on this last day only to be disappointed. I wasn’t alone. I overheard two women who were surveying the handbags saying that the sale prices were still too much.

Upcoming New York City Sales…

Looking for deals this week?  There’s not a whole lot on tap. But here are several worth checking out:

What: Soiffer Haskin is hosting the Loro Piana sale, which kicked off yesterday (Sunday).  This morning, we got notice that organizers have reduced prices – after just one day.   We’re told the sale includes cashmere knitwear, outerwear, accessories and clothing as well as bolts of cashmere and wool fabrics for suits, jackets and outerwear. At previous sales, the discount was from 50-70% off retail. That translated to cashmere sweaters on sale for around $500 and blazers/jackets for over $1000.    Where/When: Soiffer Haskin 317 West 33rd Street (at 8th Avenue). Thru Oct 4th;  Mon – Wed (9-6:30), Th (9-5).

What:  Hugo Boss spring/summer sample sale features men’s & women’s apparel and accessories.  Deep discounts on tailored clothing, sportswear, furnishings, shoes and accessories. One of  Our readers posted comments about the sale giving us an idea of pricing… Which actually look pretty good. Although, one commenter is questioning whether there will be much left tomorrow.  We hope to have a report later this week from Larry Label Whore.   Where/When: Hugo Boss Showroom, 601 W. 26th St, Suite 845. Oct 1-4th; Daily 9:30-5p).

What:  Rent the Runway sample sale which will feature gently used dresses & accessories from designers such as Badgley Mischka, Rebecca Taylor, Catherine Malandrino, David Meister, Nicole Miller. The markdown is up to 95% off retail. Where/When:  260 Fifth Ave. (b/w 28th & 29th), Oct 1-6th; Mon-Fri (10-7p), Sat (10-5p).

Dueling Loro Piana Sales This Week…

If you can’t make it to the Loro Piana sale at Soiffer Haskin on West 33rd Street near Penn Station by tomorrow (last day)… Don’t worry.  There’s another one taking place in the Meatpacking District thru the weekend (curious). I’ve not been to this week’s sale at Soiffer Haskin but they informed us today that they’re offering further discounts (the second since the sale began on Sunday).  Previous sales there offered deals at 50-80% off the original retail price.

Deals on High Quality Clothing at the Loro Piana Sale

If you can afford to pay retail for Loro Piana, then this is the sale for you.  When I popped into Soiffer Haskin on Wednesday, it appeared that many of the shoppers were customers of the brand. For them, the 50 to 70 percent off retail is a great deal.  Yesterday, sale organizers started offering further discounts.  But even with the additional reductions, many of the items were still a bit pricey (for us).  The plush cashmere sweaters are now 60 percent off (be prepared to spend around $500), scarves are down to 50 percent (the nice ones are around $400 to $500), clothing is at 65 percent (over $1,000 for blazers and jackets) and footwear, gloves and handbags are at 70 percent off.  In the back, there were damaged goods hanging on a rack for 80 percent off.

Loro Piana Offers Deals on its Luxury Cashmere Clothing

An old friend of the Little Mister got me an invitation to Loro Piana’s Saturday preview sale.  But I ended up at the Olde Good Things enormous antiques warehouse in Scranton, PA (don’t ask) instead.  Monday I managed to stop by the sale in Midtown.  There wasn’t much of a crowd – just a few dapper gents and nicely dressed ladies who were well acquainted with the brand.  If you’re looking for high-end luxury cashmere and the finest wool, this is the sale for you.  Exquisite cashmere knitwear, outerwear, accessories and more are what you’ll find here.  The Italian clothing company’s line of conservatively cut clothes is costly – a sweater can go for well over $1,000.  That’s because Mr. Loro Piana and his brother Sergio seek out the finest wool, cashmere and silk fibers from Australia to the Himalayas.
