Through Friday, the multi-designer sample sale including Loomstate, Ulla Johnson and Rogan is taking place in Soho where shoppers will get up to 80% off retail. Fashionable Femme Jen stopped in earlier this week and gives us her review.
During a lunchtime stroll, I stumble on a multi-brand sample sale on Bond St. The bright pink tape spelling out SAMPLE SALE catches my eye and I venture down into what seems like a basement area to have a peek.
Walking around the City, you may have seen random signs in front of storefronts that read: “Sample Sale.” What I’ve found with these places is that most of the offerings inside are a mish-mash of stuff (from previous seasons) not really worth going through. But that’s not always the case… as our roving reviewer, Fashionable Femme Jen, found out after walking into one in Nolita this weekend. Jen spotted some worth-while pieces from labels such as Rogan, Steven Alan, Loomstate and more. Here’s her report:
There’s something for almost everyone at the Soho Sample Sale, a discount Fashion Pop-up on Mulberry Street. Somewhere between a designer flea market and a traditional sample sale, this collective offers a wide selection of edgy designer goods at an 80% discount. Inside, pricing is clearly posted and staff is super-friendly and helpful.

Here’s a sampling of the deals that’s on tap this week:
What: The Wrights Collection is hosting a sample sale offering deep discounts on stock as well as actual samples. Here’s what you’ll find: Leather jackets for $240 (retail $1,550), laser leather pieces for $460 (retail $2,025), printed shirts for $80 (retail $530), hand crochet cover ups for $50 (retail $460). Where/When: 110 W. 40th St, Suite 1002 (b/w 6th Ave & Broadway). May 21-22; Daily (9-6p).
What: Built by Wendy end-of-season sale features floral-print cardigans, fuchsia kimono dresses, flowery tanks, and basic knits from spring at 50% off retail. Where/When: 7 Centre Market Pl., b/t Broome & Grand Sts. May 21-June 27; Mon-Sat (Noon-7p) Sun (Noon-6p).
What: Rogan & Loomstate is having a spring sample sale, featuring men’s and women’s merchandise at 70-80% off retail. We’re told they’ll have tons of stuff, including basic sweaters ($15 – $30), dresses ($20 – $40), jackets ($40 – $80), denim ($30 – $50) and tees starting at $10. Highlights include women’s Rogan sweater vest at $72 (was $288), men’s Rogan denim (was $230) will be on sale for $69, Loomstate graphic T-Shirts at $12 (were $60). Where/When: 330 Bowery (corner of Bond & Bowery), May 22-24; Tues-Wed (Noon-8p), Thurs (Noon-6p).

There were just a handful of shoppers when I walked into the Rogan and its sister brand, Loomstate sale in Tribeca, which started bright and early Wednesday morning. Here you’ll find tons of denim (of course) for both men and women as well as organic cotton tees and shirts for up to 75 percent off. The women’s and men’s merchandise are separated into two sections in the same room.
Let me start with the denim (lots) hanging on two long racks and organized by size. Women’s denim is $85 (was $200), men’s are $100 (was $260). Here’s a list of styles I spotted: For women – Derringer Enso, Slim Morris, Mies, Photon, and Zircon, Wesson Xenon and more. For men – Piston Onso and Puryear, Puck Xavier, Tunnel Xenon and Flavion.
If you’re looking for jeans, you may want to head over to the Rogan sale this weekend… They’re reasonably priced and plentiful. I checked it out Friday night and found lots of merchandise left. I picked up a pair of flat front dark blue slightly flared denim ($60). Very cute and they fit perfectly. I did have to look hard for my size (26). Not a lot of 26s, some 25s and plenty of 27s and up. The sales person told me that there were more sizes in the back. So if you don’t see your size, just ask.
After the warning about no fitting room from my friend, Sheri, I came prepared – wearing a skirt. Two other women were also prepared. I joined them in a secluded section of the space behind some racks where we all tried on jeans, tops and jackets.
The place was still teeming with tees, priced at $20. Not many smalls in sight, however. I really liked a Loomstate tee with a silhouette of two bunnies. But they only came in mediums and larges. There was a limited selection of shirts, jackets, and hoodies. Over in the men’s section, there appeared to be ample amounts of merchandise – racks of jeans ($60), chinos and flat front pants ($40), T-shirts ($20) and shirts ($40).
