Here’s what the line looked like this afternoon on the first day of the J.Crew sample sale in the Flatiron. The image above was posted on Twitter. Is this sale really worth the wait in the rain? I’m not sure it is… We’d like to hear from you if you disagree (or agree), especially if you waited in this line!
The J. Crew sample sale opens to the public at 260 Fifth Avenue today… I popped into the preview yesterday (Monday) when it was calm which gave me an opportunity to take a good look. I don’t know what I was expecting. But I have to say that this is not one of their best sales – selection and pricing was not impressive. There’s a lot of merchandise (apparel and accessories) for women, men and kids. Just to find something worth it, I had to really dig.
For me, this sale has always been a bit of a waste of time, especially when the label already has great discounts on its website at the end of every season. Plus, it offers pretty good deals at its outlets. Despite those sale avenues, they still have plenty of leftovers, which appear have ended up here.

Another busy week for sample sales… which ones will you hit? Since the list is long, we thought we’d do a roundup of the ones worth noting:
The first on our list is the Mai Cashmere holiday sample sale which we always try to hit because the deals have proven to be irresistible. Starting Wednesday, they’ll be offering up to 90% off retail for cashmere knitwear and accessories at their Garment District office. Click here to see the video we shot from the last sale. And for those who haven’t been before, they’re known to put out bargain bins with prices for cashmere pieces starting at $20. Where/When: 49 West 38th St, Floor 12A, NY, NY; Nov 28-30, Daily (11am-6pm). But, if you can’t wait that long, go to the label’s website for Cyber Monday deals at 75% off until Midnight tonight. Another showroom, this one the apropo studio in Soho is also hosting a sample sale where you’ll find discounts on European brands such as Giorgio Brato, Isabel Benenato, Avant Toi and more. A portion of all sales will be donated to the Red Cross to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Where/When: 79 Greene Street (4th Floor), NY, NY; Through December 15th. While this is being pegged as a sample sale by 260 Fifth Avenue, many of the items appeared to be overstock from current and previous seasons. The J.Crew sample sale opened to the public today at 10am. Yesterday, sale organizers had a preview for friends & family. It was eerily quite with a few shoppers going through the racks which were organized by style (women’s merchandise on one side of the room and men’s on the other).

Sale organizers are hoping to entice you on this last day of the J.Crew sample sale… Further discounts are being offered – the markdown is now an additional 50-percent off the sale price. The J.Crew sample sale in the Flatiron District kicked off this morning… Here’s a photo of the line a few minutes before they opened the doors and it snaked around the block down 28th Street. I managed to get in to do a review before the shoppers were let inside. Working on that post now, so stay tuned…
