Let’s get to the point… In my opinion, this season’s Hermes sale has really gone downhill… a real disappointment. If you’re looking for scarves or handbags, forget it! The selection for accessories, especially the signature scarves was non-existent (only a handful of large unappealing silk and wool scarves).
For just two days, VPL designer Victoria Bartlett is hosting a one-of-a-kind vintage sale at her boutique on Mercer Street in Soho. Wednesday night, Victoria was gracious in allowing me a sneak peek at the pieces up for grabs at the so-called Vintage Affair. I took photos of the merchandise as well as the designer herself as she was pricing the garments.
For four decades, the POSH sale has kicked off every spring. This time, New York City’s top fashion fundraiser is taking place at a new location… The Plaza Hotel. The sale is a treasure trove of new and gently worn designer clothing, accessories and footwear for women, men and children at 50 to 80 percent off the retail price. Designers include Alexander McQueen, Asprey, Bill Blass, Burberry, Carolina Herrera, Chanel, Christian Dior, Hermes, Jimmy Choo, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Prada and the list goes on…
We attended last night’s preview.  As with previous sales, the merchandise is well organized in separate sections/rooms in the lower level of the Plaza (vintage, contemporary and designer for the well-dressed lady and the dapper gent). Many of the shoppers have been coming to this sale for years and so they knew what they were looking for. A room towards the back that contained all the high-end designer merchandise (including furs) is where we spent most of our time. That’s also where I spotted the fashion icon, Iris Apfel, looking through the racks of designer wares (just like everyone else there) and hoping to find something that catches her eye.
Unless you’re a huge fan of Hermes, I’d suggest skipping this sale. The other bloggers (Madison Avenue Spy) were correct in their overall assessment of this season’s deals… a disappointing selection and dissatisfying discounts. I stopped in Thursday morning before the Phillip Lim sample sale (A mistake – I should have just gone straight to PL). 
At 9:30am Wednesday, the line to get inside the Hermès sale (officially started today) was insane. Hardcore fans didn’t let the wintery weather stop them from waiting for what could be hours for those at the end of the line (which was in front of B&H at 9th Avenue b/w 33rd [...] Nothing of note caught my eye at the Hermes sample sale when I dropped into Soiffer Haskin today. It’s possible that I may have missed the boat and waited too long to check out the merchandise. However, I don’t think it would have made a difference if I had stood in line for [...] 
No surprise that Hermès fans turned out in droves today. It’s the first day the sale is open to the public and it always draws crowds.  At 9am, the line outside the Hermes Sale near Penn Station stretched down West 33rd Street to 9th Avenue at B&H. The [...] I headed back to the Hermès spring sale Saturday afternoon, curious to see what was left. Surprisingly, there was still plenty of merchandise; scarves, handbags, small leather goods, ties, jewelry and more. Not surprising, the scarves were still drawing a crowd, as women looked through different styles and colors trying to figure out what [...] 
I decided to skip Wednesday’s monster Hermès line that snaked around the block in Chelsea. Many shoppers had to wait two-and-a-half hours to get in, as Racked reported. Thursday after work was a breeze. There was a short line outside the Metropolitan Pavilion. Security guards were handing out yellow cards with [...] Hermès sale got underway this morning.  When I stopped by at 9am, shoppers were lined up around the block, down 18th Street and around 6th Avenue. The sale offers 40% to 70% off clothing, accessories (including scarves and handbags), shoes, gift sets and more. Where/When: Metropolitan Pavilion, 123 W. 18th St between Sixth [...] |
