Bloomingdale’s Winter Sale & Clearance

Through this Wednesday (January 25th), Bloomingdale’s is hosting its winter sale & clearance online and in stores.  With the first significant snowstorm to hit New York City this season, the store on 3rd Avenue was fairly quiet for a Saturday.  It was a good time for fellow shopper, Laura, to check out the offerings.  Here’s her findings:

I headed over to Bloomingdale’s to check out their additional 40% and 50% discounts on designer merchandise.  Maybe because I just saw the designer consolidation sale at Saks Fifth Avenue and insane markdowns at Neimanmarcus.com you could say expectations were high.  At Bloomingdale’s the store was quiet for a Saturday especially the contemporary section. What I did see was almost every section from Marc by Marc to DVF to Joie to Theory to Alice and Olivia having a lot of merchandise marked at 40% off.  It didn’t all look exclusively “winter” either some of the sections had work appropriate items that could definitely be pushed into spring.

UPDATE: DVF Sample Sale, Today is for Friends & Family

This morning, the space on 260 Fifth Avenue was crowded (however, the narrow aisles were still manageable)… as the preview sale got underway… No line for the dressing room yet (but expect one this afternoon).  There was a small line at the cash register.  As I walked in, women were rushing out with bags of stuff.

The set up is similar to past DVF sample sales, most of the apparel is hanging on racks organized by size, smaller sizes on the far wall and it goes from there.  You’ll find sweaters in the back next to the communal dressing room.  Accessories (handbags, belts, scarves and gloves) are along the wall near the cash registers.

DVF Sample Sale Friends & Family Today…

The highly anticipated Diane von Furstenberg sample sale kicked off today for friends and family.  Here’s what the line looked like around 9:30am today (not bad)…   They have a fairly loose door policy so if you’re in the neighborhood, it’s worth stopping in before tomorrow’s official opening when the scene [...]

Scoop Summer Blow Out Sale in the MePa

Maybe I’m just not in the mood for shopping for summer things now that we’re headed into fall… but I didn’t really see much I liked at the Scoop “closet clean out” sale in the Meat Packing District (except for Sigerson Morrison suede boots for $129 – only available in size 6).

The store on the corner of W. 14th and Washington Street is full of merchandise (two floors worth) for both men and women.  Although, there’s more for the ladies.  Most of the shoes and handbags are downstairs, while a few are on display on the main floor, where most of the better clothing selection can be had.  There’s also a dressing room downstairs.  Everything is an additional 50-percent off the sale price.

The Mad Dash for Last Minute Deals at the DVF Sample Sale…

It was insane this morning… no surprise since it is the last day of the DVF sample sale.  Long waits for the dressing room and a short line outside.   All the spring dresses and tops are now gone  replaced by fall merchandise (most likely overstock) – coats (dark colors), knits (some light-weight).    As expected, organizers slashed prices further. Even before the additional reductions, women were frantically rampaging the racks looking for last minute deals.  Here’s the new pricing:  Coats are $100; Leather is $40 (good luck finding any leather! I spotted two vests and a tunic); all dresses are $100 (including wraps and vintage), sweaters are $50… (check out the price list below).  You only have a few hours left.  Doors close today at 3pm.

It’s the final day of the DVF sample sale and prices have been slashed.  This morning, the space in the Flatiron was busy with shoppers trying to find last-minute bargains. I was greeted with a small line outside around 9:30am. The space inside was packed and the line to the dressing room was [...]

Guest Post: A Crowded DVF Friends & Family Preview

Sample Sale Diva hit up the Diane von Furstenberg friends & family preview before heading over to HH (Haute Hippie).  There she found a mob scene but nowhere near what tomorrow’s public opening may bring (as many of us have seen in past sales - the first day always draws out the crowds).  Here’s what she tells us:
There are tons and tons of DVF dresses of all styles (including her signature wrap dresses in iconic prints) hanging on racks, arranged by size.  This sale is very organized. There also lots of accessories that can be given as gifts.  Dresses range in price from $125 to $275. Day dresses are $125, wrap & vintage dresses are $150 and gowns are $275.  Sweaters are $80, coats are $350, handbags are $175 and up, wool scarves and hats are $60 as well as leather gloves.

Head to Housing Works for a Good Cause

Housing Works is hosting its fall preview through the end of September. Tuesday night, I made it into the Tribeca location where the preview started at 5pm. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by a live band performing funky tunes. The music gave the place a lively atmosphere. The band was a nice touch.
