The Fred Perry biannual sample sale goes through Saturday at the Avalon Group Showroom in Chelsea.  I found plenty of merchandise (predominantly  samples in sample sizes) when I checked out the goods after work yesterday.  The showroom was quiet – just a handful of shoppers – when I was there.  Check out the video:

I joined a friend, Andy, who is a fan of the brand.  At the sale last spring, he made out with shoes and a wallet.  This time, he was eyeing some of the polos but didn’t find anything that fit him.  For men, almost all the apparel is a size medium.  For women, size 6 (British size 38) dominates. Women will find tons of cotton tops in fun prints – many for under $40.  Sweaters (argyles, stripes, solids and polka dots) are under $50.  Of course, you’ll also find polos (starting at $35) and track jackets for $40.  Shoes are under $40 and the choices are sporty (canvas tennis shoes and flats).  There are also fall jackets and handbags.

There’s more on offer for men (mainly in size medium).   Basic polos (in solids and summery colors) can be had for under $40; light-weight jackets, hoodies, jersey knits and track jackets.  There’s also a wide selection of sweaters under $60, including cardis, crewsnecks, V-necks and more.  As you walk into the room, you’ll notice a large selection of leather and canvas sneakers starting at $35 – all in size 9.  Just like the last sale, there’s a few collab pieces from Raf Simons (blazers & jackets are over $200) up for grabs as well as the Laurel Wreath Collection.

What really caught our eye were pieces from a new British menswear line, DS Dundee.  There was a rack in the back with sport jackets and sweaters – all made in Scotland.  The pieces include Fair Isle knits for just over $100 (V-neck jumper and cardigans with elbow patches) and tweed jackets with elbow patches for over $200.  Winter wool scarves are under $40.   Sale organizers are only accepting CASH so hit an ATM before you go there.
