The Saks Fifth Avenue winter sale is in full swing this week… Get up to 60-percent off the original price for her and up to 50-percent off for him.
This morning, the scene was fairly quite at the IT USA spring sale where Italian brands (Cavalli, Galliano, C’N’C Costume National, and Gianfranco Ferre) are marked down. The discount is primarily 70 percent off retail on most of the merchandise, including men’s and women’s clothing, shoes, handbags and other accessories. However, there were a couple of Gianfranco Ferre racks going for 80 to 90 percent off the ticketed price. There’s a lot more cotton and silks on offer (plenty of animal prints) at this sale (just in time for spring) compared to the sale they held in February.
A couple of our readers were asking about the shoes at the IT USA sample sale in Midtown, which we reviewed earlier this week. We didn’t have any info on the shoes so I thought I’d stop in and check them out. You won’t find the kind of selection that the Barneys Warehouse Sale has on offer but you will find  footwear from Italian labels Gianfranco Ferre, Cavalli and Costume National (C’N’C’). The selection of styles and sizes are limited because most of these goods appear to be overstock.
Several years ago, I checked out the IT USA sample sale. After a friend mentioned that she’d found some great deals at the sale last year, I thought I’d give it another try. This season’s sale is being held through Sunday at IT USA’s showroom across from Battery Park. It’s a large space with tons of merchandise. You’ll find ready-to-wear men’s and women’s pieces, including knits, jackets, tops, pants, jeans, shoes and handbags from brands such as GF Ferre, Just Cavalli, Malo, Galliano & C’N'C Costume National and more. Most items are 70 to 75 percent off. Although, I did spot a few racks with items at up to 90 percent off. There’s a lot of merchandise so be prepared to spend time going through the racks.
I didn’t have a lot of time to spend. Just enough time to get an idea of the offerings. I spotted Ferre dresses at $400, Malo sweaters at $300, Just Cavalli shoes at under $200. Coats and jackets ranged in price from $200 to $450. The other problem was with sizing – not a lot of smalls were available, especially with the footwear, which were primarily one-offs at size 39 and 40. Most of the handbags were around $200 to $300. I really didn’t see anything that I loved so I left empty handed. It’s quite a trek to this showroom. Unless you’re in the neighborhood, I wouldn’t make a special trip to this sale. |
