This week, Bergdorf Goodman began offering its final markdown on its fall/winter designer collections. We haven’t made it to the flagship store on Fifth Avenue but the sale is also available online. So we took a look.
The holiday season is in the air in New York City… Earlier this week, Rockerfeller Center held its tree lighting ceremony. Also this week, many of the high-end department stores in the area began their holiday discounts. Larry Label Whore gives us the roundup:
For those of you looking to get your holiday shopping done early, the department stores are having their first markdowns of the season to wet your appetite.
Barneys New York: Fall sale on all items up to 40% off. More markdowns in December closer to the holidays.
Saks Fifth Avenue: Up to 40% off with more markdowns coming later in the season. For card members, you can get double the points with purchases through November 30.
With the holiday shopping season in full swing… part of the fun in New York City is checking out the department store windows. Earlier this week, Fashionable Femme Jen took a stroll down Fifth Avenue and stopped to look at the spectacular holiday display at Bergdorf Goodman. This season’s windows were inspired by the Jazz Age. She posted her impressions on her blog, Style Curated. Here’s what she writes:
David Hoey has done it again! This year, the theme is “Follies”–shaped after the Ziegfeld Follies of the 20′s and 30′s Jazz Age. In spectacular style, life-like mannequins and painstaking attention to detail make for a fantabulous celebration of theatrics and splendor over a total of 5 “acts” framed by gold-leafed prosceniums.
On Monday, Hurricane Sandy shuttered the doors of retailers in New York City. This morning, I walked down Fifth Avenue and found most stores still closed, including Bergdorf Goodman on West 57th Street (check out the video). In addition, a dangerously dangling crane on a construction site west of the store has shutdown part of the cross street. While the storm has passed the area, there’s now damage to assess…
Good news for those of you looking to spruce up your home… starting today (Wednesday), you can get deals on items from the Italian luxury linens line, SFERRA. The brand offers uncompromising quality and detail. The linens are carried at Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and Bloomingdale’s. This sale will feature down comforters, pillows, blankets, sheets, duvet covers, throws, decorative pillows, table linens, towels, and bathrobes at up to 75% off retail.
The shopping excursion in New Jersey was just the beginning for Larry… His curiosity got the best of him so he had to check out the end-of-season-sales at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, and Barneys. Here’s Larry’s report:
I first stopped at the Saks consolidation sale and found a few racks of shoes. The signs say “up to 70% off” so I thought the deals would be better than the 60% off deals from the Fourth of July. I was WRONG!! Basically Saks just kept the same shoes on the racks with the same 60% discount and just stressed the words “UP TO.” I felt gypped!! I saw these great pair of Diesel sneakers for 60% off at $35, but didn’t get them out of principle. On top of that, the selection was picked over from the previous weeks AND the salespeople were so rude! (I was pretty shocked, to say the least).
