Mark your calendars, the dates have been revealed for the Barneys Warehouse Sale… Racked’s inside sources reports the sale is expected to start on Thursday, February 16th.

If you want to get an idea of what’s in store, check out the current sale section either in-stores or online where items are now up to 75-percent off.  When I was at the Madison Avenue store earlier this month, there were plenty of designer shoes to be had.   BTW, that’s where the discounts will begin at the start of the BWS.

Most of you already know the drill:  the selection is better the first few days.  If you wait a few days, you’ll get better deals when the price slashing starts… culminating to the best deals on the last days of the sale.  As for the west coast, the sale returns to the LA Convention Center, February 11 – 20.

What else can I add about the Barneys Warehouse Sale? It’s the bottom of the barrel and Barneys isn’t the only one scraping it.  I stopped in tonight after surveying the goods at Chelsea’s Housing Works store down 17th Street (I’ll publish a post about Housing Works’ “Best of Fall” sale sometime tomorrow).

Now onto the discounts at BWS… everything is now 50 to 75 percent off the sale price.  Women’s shoes, RTW and designer clothing is an additional 60-percent off.  Accessories, casual pants and imperfects are an extra 75-percent off.  As for men, suits, dress shirts, shoes, trousers and sports coats are another 50-percent off.

Some of you are wondering if you should bother with the last day of the sale.   I’d say don’t bother.  While the prices are right and the deals are better at the end… Tonight’s selection was mediocre.  I went with a friend… both of us scoured the shoe section (very picked over and what was left were rejects from the beginning of the sale as well as previous seasons).  We also checked out women’s clothing (very little high-end designer and lots of RTW that have been damaged from all the manhandling over the past days of the sale).  I just didn’t have the energy to head downstairs to the men’s section where there might have been better offerings.  Sale ends Wednesday at 7pm.

With the sale ending in a few days, the Barneys Warehouse Sale has slashed sale prices further for the Holiday weekend… Check out the complete price list above.  The selection is pretty much picked over.  But if you’re willing (and in the mood) to dig through the merchandise, you might find a few things.

Women’s designer, RTW, shoes and accessories are now an extra 40-percent off.  I spent a few minutes (not a lot of time, I just wasn’t in the mood) looking through the offerings and I just couldn’t find anything I wanted in the women’s section.  As for men, suits are now an additional 25 percent off as well as shoes.  Dress shirts and ties are now at an extra 40 percent off.  It’s very likely that they’ll offer even further reductions before the end of the sale.

The first markdowns at the Barneys Warehouse Sale has already started… I found out tonight when I popped into the space in Chelsea.  A staffer told me that they began offering further discounts on Sunday when they were open for four hours after Hurricane Irene moved north.

The first markdowns at the Barneys Warehouse Sale has already started… I found out tonight when I popped into the space in Chelsea.  A staffer told me that they began offering further discounts on Sunday when they were open for four hours after Hurricane Irene moved north.

As you can see from the list, women’s shoes, accessories, ready-to-wear and “red” stamped designer pieces are an additional 25 percent off.  You get an extra 40 percent off lingerie, swim, Chelsea Passage and childrens.  As for men, an extra 25 percent is given for sportswear, outerwear, dress shirts, neckwear, accessories and more.  While 40-percent off the sale price is given for casual pants, sneakers and underwear.  No further discounts on suits other than the “yellow” tagged merchandise.  Check out the entire list for a better look.

I noticed that the selection for women’s designer clothing has dwindled even further from the limited selection it began with.  There’s still lots of ready-to-wear hanging on racks.  I only had time to survey the shoes… where the shelves appeared to be stacked full of a so-so selection (not a lot of high-end designer footwear and plenty of past season overstock).  I did spot quite a few Lanvin wedges ($426) in size 7, Lanvin heeled sandals ($449), Isabel Marant flat sandals $164, Alexander Wang wedged sandals ($201) and a couple of pairs of Manolo Blahniks in 71/2 ($374).

Another update the staffer mentioned is that the sale has been extended through Wednesday Sept 7th.  If you’re waiting for deep discounts, that’s probably going to happen over this Labor Day weekend when it will likely be a madhouse… Overall, I just wasn’t impressed with the women’s selection for shoes, bags and designer wear this time around.  But if you want to find the best deals, go during the last days… that is if you can handle the insanity.

Chelsea Passage is located on the main floor near the women’s designer goods, in the back corner lumped together with the children’s section.  The home section was a nice breather from the madness of the rest of the sale.

This is a great place to pick up a baby present; the children’s clothes were stocked in every size and on Thursday evening still well organized.  I saw a splendid button up (for $29) available in a slew of sizes as well as the cutest Paul Smith button up ($46).  There was a Gucci leather jacket for an infant (which we all know for Skyler Zoe has already sported) – priced at $745.

Items from Chelsea Passage were limited with frames from $129-$139 and placemats starting at $59.  I wasn’t impressed with the prices or the selection.  On offer were Jonathan Adler fondue sets, wine glasses for $25 each and some throw pillows for $82.

More on the Barneys Warehouse Sale… this report is from one of our contributors, Laura Baumgartner, who surveyed women’s contemporary garments.  Laura found the selection uninspiring.  Here’s her report:

Barneys contemporary section looked like it had experienced a hurricane of it’s own.  The selection was depleted, full of damaged goods and generally destroyed.  Heading over to the sale Thursday night I got in quickly (and didn’t have to check my bag!) but from there on it was downhill.  Most of the madness was in the shoe section (not a surprise).  I couldn’t help it… but I had to check out the offerings in my size (7.5).  Saw a few pairs that I’d even consider walking out with, including a cute pair of Loeffler Randall sandals for $329 and basic Barnyes Co-op flats for $129.

Over to contemporary… there were a number of Carven cropped moto-jackets in black and white in almost every size.  There was a decent pant selection was rag & bone army green khakis in a number of sizes for $149 and some satin Alexander Wang pants for $159.  The pant selection was pretty extensive with some styles from Theory and rag & bone that would be work-appropriate.  Size 4 had the most aggressive browsing.

The selection of tops was disappointing.  A few of the pieces I spotted were a grey Helmut Lang wrap cardigan for $109 (I only saw one) and a Richard Chai button up for $89.  There was a number of Isabel Marant striped polos for $249 as well as the same polo as a lace up bustier dress in a number of sizes.  There were some co-op tees and tank tops but not that many and a lot looked to be frayed.  A lot of the items I saw were damaged.  I did see a nice selection of coats with quality co-op wool coats in a number of sizes for $149.  I saw one Marc by Marc Jacobs pea coat for $249.

In addition, a number of shorts from Loomstar and Vince from $59 to $69 were up for grabs. There were dressier fall shorts as well but I only saw a few pairs appropriate for colder seasons. At this point, I took an elbow to the back and decided it was time to move on!

The madness began today at the semi-annual Barneys Warehouse Sale in Chelsea.  While it’s best to wait until the last week for the best deals, die-hard shoppers were lined up at the crack of dawn.  I made it inside around 10am this morning.  My intention was to survey the merchandise and to see if there were any gems. Check out the video of the shoes and handbags…

I started with the shoe section and I wasn’t alone.  Not surprising that it was mobbed!  As expected there were plenty of strappy sandals, heels, flats, fancy flip-flops and quite a few boots.  Here’s what I spotted: Alaïa heeled gladiator in gold for $720 (was $1,830); Alexander Wang Tasha heeled boot (from 2010) in brown tagged at $259 (was $715); Alexander Wang gladiator heels at $259 (was $645); Balenciaga flat tie-ups for $379 (was $945); Comme des Garçons flats for $269 (was $685); Bottega Veneta peep toe bootie for $290 (was $790); Manolo Blahnik heeled gladiator in black for $579 (was $965); Lanvin patent wedge bootie for $479 (was $1190); Rochas wedge peep toe for $299 (was $745) and YSL gold wedge heeled gladiators for $429 (was $1085).

I really wasn’t impressed with the shoe or handbag offerings. The handbags were piled on a table next to the shoes.  You really had to dig deep to find anything.  I finally unearthed a large Givenchy hobo on sale for $679.  But the straps were damaged and a paper attached to it said it was a return.  Having seen the condition of the bag, I quickly put it back on the pile.  Other handbag brands included: Botkier, Barneys and Tano.

As if we needed reminding, but thought I’d send one out anyway… This Thursday, the madness begins at the much-anticipated Barneys Warehouse Sale in Chelse, which goes through Labor Day.  Deals are at 50 to 70 percent off retail prices on selected designer clothing, shoes, accessories for men, women and kids as well as gifts for the home.  If you plan to check it out on the first day, get there really early since many shoppers line up hours before the doors open.
