We’re a bit late getting out our sales roundup for New York City… Take a look at the list below of a few notable ones taking place this week:
Let’s start with the Aloha Rag semi-annual sample sale which kicks off this Thursday. Shoppers can get up to 85% off new & old stock from current and previous seasons as well as samples from the AR’s house brand. While sale prices are never as good as we hope at previous sales, we still like to check out this sale since the store features great labels such as Saint Laurent, Balmain, Martin Margiela, Celine and more… Where/When: 545 Greenwich Street, 2A, NY, NY; May 16-19; Daily (12pm-6pm).
While the Barneys Warehouse Sale was well underway in Chelsea yesterday, another sale downtown was taking place in a much more chill atmosphere and with soothing Hawaiian music playing in the background. The Aloha Rag Warehouse Sale is being held inside a warehouse a couple of blocks north of the boutique on Greenwich Street. While the outside and stairwell looked industrial, the actual space was large, airy and bright.
Go-to shop, Aloha Rag, is hosting a sample sale starting tomorrow. The name may make you think of grass skirts and hibiscus-pattered shirts but you won’t find any of that here. The store does have roots in Hawaii where the original Rag opened in Honolulu. This modern, whitewashed boutique north of Tribeca carries a well-edited selection of American & International designers. We’re told that the sale will be featuring the following brands: ALC, Balmain, Thomas Wylde, Giuseppe Zanotti, Carven, The Row, Alexander Wang, Martin Margiela, and more. The markdowns will be up to 80% off the retail price on men’s and women’s current as well as past ready-to-wear stock.
Bargain shopper, Sample Sale Diva, ventured into the Intermix store in Soho yesterday to see what kind of selection they had left on their winter sale. Her hopes were dashed as soon as she went in. The Diva tells us it was “one big FAIL”:
…Basically, they put all the rejects of many high-end brands in one little corner and marked the prices down… between 50 to 70% off. I saw Balmain, Stella McCartney, Helmut Lang, lots of Elizabeth and James, J Brand, Intermix, Valentino Red, Rag& Bone, Proenza Schouler and a few other random designers. The cheapest item that I saw was Stella McCartney’s head horse tank tops for $49. I saw a pretty McQueen2 dress for $149. The Balmain was in the $600 range and the J Brand jeans were $59 to $89. Elizabeth and James were between $99 and $149. I saw a few Proenza Schouler dresses (nice) for $199.
