Update: Brooklyn’s Bird Boutique Winter Sale

As we enter February… retailers are wrapping up their end-of-season sales and making room for new merchandise.  Wednesday’s warm weather was a nice reminder that spring is just ahead of us.  I took the opportunity to check out the deals at the Park Slope Bird location.  It was no surprise that sale items are pretty much picked over.

Tipster’s Take: La Garçonne Warehouse Sale

I have to thank fellow shopper, Deme, who saved me the trip and checked out the La Garçonne Warehouse sale yesterday…  When I saw the list of designers (Maison Martin Margiela, Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang, Vanessa Bruno and more), I must say I was tempted.  But after reading her account (I trust her opinion on sales!), I’m not sure I’m heading over there now.  She was so put off by the display of the apparel that she stuck to shoes… Here’s Deme’s scoop:

I have never seen a more unappealing layout for clothing.  You have to seriously want to find something to be willing to pull out each item individually just to get an idea of what it looks like.  Pricing on clothing was up to 75% off but the items I liked were still a few hundred dollars so I concentrated on shoes.

UPDATE: Bird Boutique Warehouse Sale… EXTENDED Thru Wednesday

Due to Hurricane Irene, the warehouse sale at Bird’s boutique in Park Slope, Brooklyn is closed this weekend.  However, they’ve extended the sale through this Wednesday.  For all of you who wanted to stop in this weekend… it’s worth checking out.

I dropped by on Thursday evening and the scene was really chill – a lot calmer than the madness over at the Barneys Warehouse Sale in Chelsea.  Lots of great labels at up to 75-percent off retail.

Barneys Warehouse Sale: A Look at Designer Shoes & Handbags on the First Day

The madness began today at the semi-annual Barneys Warehouse Sale in Chelsea.  While it’s best to wait until the last week for the best deals, die-hard shoppers were lined up at the crack of dawn.  I made it inside around 10am this morning.  My intention was to survey the merchandise and to see if there were any gems. Check out the video of the shoes and handbags…

Another Day Brings Even More Price Slashing at the Alexander Wang Sample Sale

I went over to Soho this morning and checked out the Alexander Wang sample sale.  I found no line outside… inside, it was fairly busy but manageable.  As expected, sale organizers continue to markdown the sale prices.  For those of you hoping to score on handbags, I spotted only the Emile tote displayed on the table (in burlap and white) still tagged at $400.  When I asked if they were expecting more handbags – they said “no.”  It’s not a surprise that the shoe selection is now really picked over – pricing for footwear is now at $150 and $175.

Further Reductions at the Alexander Wang Sample Sale…

Just before the doors closed, I walked into a mad rush to find deals inside the Alexander Wang sample sale in Soho.  It was pretty crowded.  That’s probably due to organizers slashing prices today. Great news for many of you waiting for price reductions…

Here’s the scoop:

Sale prices for handbags have not been slashed… I spotted the Marion sling in black for $350, the Emile tote in burlap and white leather for $400, and the Adele clutch for $300.  Check out the price list to get an idea of the markdowns for other merchandise such as RTW…

Update: Alexander Wang Sample Sale, the scene this morning…

As I mentioned earlier, there was no morning rush so when I got inside the Alexander Wang sample sale at 9am after checking my bag, I headed straight for handbags and shoes, which can be found downstairs. I had less than an hour so I figured head for the items that will go first.

First thing to handbags… Colored dots tell you the price of the merchandise. Bags are starting at $250 (light blue dot) and going up to $400 (yellow dot).  Here’s what I spotted:  the Marion sling with the rosegold hardware in white ($250), Jade clutch stingray with rosegold in white ($300), Ryan ombre with matte black hardware ($250), Adele clutch burlap ($250), Donna hobo ($400), Brenda camera cross-body ($350).
