Many of us are planning to hunker down during this massive snowstorm and stay indoors. Once the blizzard passes through our area, the avid shoppers among us will want to check out the sales.  Here are a few notables for the weekend:

Just in time… the Swedish outdoor clothing brand, Fjallraven is hosting a sample sale on women’s and men’s merchandise.  The markdown on its winter weather appropriate attire is up to 85% off retail.  You’ll find deals on down coats and waterproof pieces at $50 to $175 (orig. prices $250 – $600); woven & knots are $40-$80 (orig. prices $140-$180); pants from $40-$90 (orig. $150-$200). Update: Alessi Moving Sale is Over!

For those of you hoping to score some deals at the Alessi moving sale… don’t bother.  It’s over!  I stopped into the Soho showroom this morning on Spring Street to find out that they had already packed everything up. This despite a flier that advertised the sale going through to this Friday (August 24th). Such a disappointment since I was really hoping to find some great deals…

Italian Kitchenware Designer, Alessi, hosts a moving sale with 70-90% off retail

The recent renovation of my kitchen has had me busy searching for beautiful things to fill it with. When Fashionable Femme Jen informed me that she had stumbled upon the Alessi moving sale Wednesday evening, I knew I had to check it out immediately. The Italian kitchenware maker is known for turning otherwise ordinary culinary tools into amazing and whimsical design pieces.  Through this Friday, you’ll find deals at 70 to 90% off selected items at Alessi’s Soho showroom.  Jen’s photos shows a pretty good selection of gleaming stainless steel cooking utensils.  Here’s her report:

The 4th floor showroom on Spring Street was fairly crowded when I dropped by Wednesday evening. Even with the cash only policy, stock was quickly depleting. Everything is marked down 70% off the original retail price, with the exception of a section of white porcelain items which are discounted at 90% off. Pricing is not evident and can be challenging to figure out so you’ll need to consult an Alessi employee for each item.

Gracious Home Store Closing Sale

Since I bought some wine glasses at the Gracious Home store in Chelsea (766 6th Avenue at 25th Street), I thought I’d check to see if they had the same ones on sale.  After the family-owned retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last month,  it’s now closing its Chelsea location.  Besides wine glasses, the store sells housewares, tabletop items, lighting, bedding, bath fixtures, luggage and more.  On Monday, items were mostly 20 percent off.  Some things were an extra 50 percent off, including select bedding and bathroom fixtures.  The store was a bit disheveled when I stopped in on Monday evening.  I didn’t think the 20 percent off was that great of a discount.  I did, however, find more wine glasses.
