August tends to be a slow month for sample sales… But there are a few taking place this week worth checking out. One of them, the MATTA sample sale gets underway today and goes through tomorrow. We were allowed entry as they were still setting up this morning.

Founder and designer of Matta, Cristina Gitti was on hand while we were there. Her ready-to-wear collection includes lightweight cottons, wools and silks (think bright as well as earth tones). These pieces are tailored to create shirts, tunics, skirts and dresses for women. Fans of the brand will find lots on offer.

The dresses and tops are hanging on racks along the wall. Scarves are also hanging on racks. Staffers have made a point to organize items by color and style.

Accessories are in the back of the space, including handbags, small accessories and jewelry.

Pricing is really good with nothing we spotted over $100. Most dresses and tops are $30-$50, some $70 and $90. The highly-sought after scarves are tagged from $20-$98. Jewelry starts at $10.

There are no dressing rooms. But there are full-length mirrors. If you plan on trying things on, make sure you dress appropriately.

This sale tends to draw a large crowd. As we were leaving, there was already a line forming outside.
