Today is the first day of Herschel Supply Co sample sale in Soho… and we’re getting reports that the line this morning was down the street.
Whether it’s for school, travel or fashion – Herschel makes quality backpacks, bags, travel goods and accessories. Its popularity is made even more evident with today’s large turnout.
We sent one of our contributors this morning hoping to get an inside look at the selection but she didn’t have the time or energy to brave the line. We did get a few photos from 260 Sample Sale who is hosting the event at its Wooster location through this Sunday, August 26th.
Update: One of our new contributors, Teri, asks if this sale is worth waiting hours for:
“As expected the line was CRAZY! (standing on Wooster, looking down Houston, it wrapped around the corner.)
How long you had to wait depended on the time you arrived. One shopper told me he arrived at 10:30 a.m. and waited about 1/2 hour. Another shopper said she arrived at 11 a.m. and she clocked a 50-minute wait. When I arrived at 12:30, one woman, 1/3 down the block, said she had been waiting for one hour and wasn’t giving up her spot. About 2 hours later, 2:30-ish, after my Vegan lunch with a friend, I noticed the line had dwindled to about half way down the block.
As per usual, the price list was posted outside the door and it appeared most goods were about 50% off.
In the end, was it worth the wait? Several shoppers on the way were more than willing to talk about their purchases. One shopper, who proudly walked down the street with his white shopping bag, said he bought five back packs for $35 each. He planned to give them to family and friends. Another shopper showed me a basic black duffel that he bought for $70. He also got there early enough to snag the free pencil case, advertised in the flyer.
Now believe me I wanted the pencil case as well and I like the brand – enough to purchase a backpack for full price at Bloomingdale’s about five years ago. But fast forward to 2018 and take a look at the backpacks in Century 21. I can’t make any promises that they will be there now but the last time I wonder the aisles there, there were not only Herschel backpacks but also dufflel for about the same price as the sale – half off! Up to you how you want to spend your time, but if you don’t have the time I suggest checking out Century 21 downtown and then enjoy a nice leisurely lunch nearby.”
We’d also still love to hear from any of you who made it inside.
In the meantime, the price list is below.
