If you live in New Jersey, then you’re in luck. The Hermes sample sale arrived at the Short Hills Mall with a bang. Larry Label Whore braved the crowds and has our report:”Hundreds (maybe even a thousand) lined up to get their hands on the French label’s highly-coveted shoes, scarves, ready-to-wear, housewares, and beachwear. I was one of the first 100 to get in.

I found out about the sale from my mom who was shopping at the mall the day before and just happened to come up on the VIP line where they told her Thursday would start the public sale. I checked online and it said the line would start at 9am with doors opening up at 10am. If you got there by 7am then you were one of the first 100 to get in.

The pricing is simple: 60% off retail for men’s/women’s ready-to-wear and everything else is at 50% off.

Once in, the space is very large and accommodates a lot of people so there is plenty of room to shop. The most action was at women’s shoes where there was a good selection of sandals, loafers, and boots. Men’s shoes also had a good selection, but with only a 50% discount expect to pay at least $500 for a pair of any kind of footwear!

I almost bought a pair of the men’s leather “Paris” loafers with the “H” symbol on the front. Originally they were $1125 (and are still regular price online), but with the discount they would’ve been $562.50. I couldn’t justify spending that much, especially since I didn’t need them.

The only other place with a lot of action was the women’s scarves, which with the 50% off came to at least $205 each.

No takers at the men’s and women’s ready-to-wear section even though there was a good amount of shirts, pants, sweaters, and jackets.

Housewares and beach items (like blankets, totes, and towels) were also scarcely visited. Great deals on men’s ties for under $100 and cashmere scarves for $275 (The sable scarves were at least $300 each). Men’s swimsuits would run you at least $200, but expect to pay at least $450 for sweaters.

No jewelry, no leather bags, no wallets, no leather accessories. It looked like they kept restocking, which is a good sign for people who had to miss the first day. The salespeople were also very helpful and even can check in the back for you if there is something specific you want or are looking for. Those “H” loafers I mentioned before were found for me in the back by a salesperson.

If you’re a fan of the brand, it could be worth checking out. As for me, I came away without anything because I felt guilty spending too much. If you don’t think you’ll have buyer’s remorse then go for it. Happy Shopping!”-Larry Label Whore
