Mark your calendars, the dates have been revealed for the Barneys Warehouse Sale… Racked’s inside sources reports the sale is expected to start on Thursday, February 16th.

If you want to get an idea of what’s in store, check out the current sale section either in-stores or online where items are now up to 75-percent off.  When I was at the Madison Avenue store earlier this month, there were plenty of designer shoes to be had.   BTW, that’s where the discounts will begin at the start of the BWS.

Most of you already know the drill:  the selection is better the first few days.  If you wait a few days, you’ll get better deals when the price slashing starts… culminating to the best deals on the last days of the sale.  As for the west coast, the sale returns to the LA Convention Center, February 11 – 20.

Wednesday afternoon, a line had formed in the hallway outside the Mikimoto Fifth Avenue showroom.  A group of women (including one who was wearing a kimono) patiently waited to have a look at the offerings inside.   After about half-an-hour, we were all inside.

The discount is 50-70 percent off retail.  To make it easier for both staff and customers, the pricing is color-coded.  Many of the Mikimoto pieces are half off the original price (just like past sales). This includes the highly sought-after pearl strands (mostly 18” and up) for $2,600 to $14,000 and up… Mikimoto pearl bracelets were starting at $860 (on sale for $430).  If that’s beyond your budget, there were Blue Lagoon strands at 70-percent off the original price of $1,460 to $2,260 (starting at $438).

The selection was fairly limited.  Some women came looking for simple pearl studs only to be disappointed to find none on offer.   There were also Mikimoto pearl and diamond rings for $1,240 (was $3,100) and simple pearl and diamond earrings for $750 ($1,500).

Just like the other high-end retailers, Bergdorf Goodman is holding its post-holiday sale. Score on up to 60-percent off select designer merchandise.  On Thursday, I popped into the women’s store to survey their offerings…

Sale bags were lying on a glass counter in the designer handbag section of the main floor.  Labels included Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Prada, Marni, Tom Ford, Valentino and more.  The shoe department was mobbed where deals of 55% off retail on shoes and 30% off boots can be had.   I spotted Christian Louboutins, Manolo Blahniks, Jimmy Choos, Pradas, Chloes, Valentinos, YSLs and more…  The designer apparel floors was much more calm, just a few shoppers perusing the sales racks (up to 60-percent off).

On the last day, everything was up for grabs (including the store’s fixtures) for 90-percent off the ticketed price.  I wasn’t expecting to find much… I just wanted to capture the scene on video.  There were so many last-minute shoppers gathered hoping to score on final deals…

There’s a lot on offer (earrings, bracelets and necklaces from 20 percent off and more…).  We loved the new collection (also marked down), especially the cuffs adorned with teeny tiny sculls and bangles with arrowheads ($54).  Great place to find gifts for someone or yourself… so hurry on over there.  Credit cards are accepted.

I have to agree with many of the rave reviews about Roger Vivier’s sale being held at Soiffer Haskin in Midtown.  Inside is an amazing assortment of footwear for all seasons and occasions.  Not only will you find the iconic pilgrim pumps (modern versions of the original shoe that Catherine Deneuve wore in the film “Belle de Jour“), you’ll also find strappy heels, sandals, ballet flats, wedges and boots in all sorts of fabrications and colors.  It’s like a candy store in there.  You’ll find it hard to decide what to take home.  So be prepared to dish out some serious dosh!

Thursday was only the second day and the selection was already picked over.  The signature RV red boxes were dwindling.  The popular classic styles with the signature buckles were going fast (mostly larger sizes were available, only a few if any of size 35, 36 and 37 were left).  But the good news is there’s so many other types of shoes on offer that you won’t have a hard time finding something that will catch your eye.

The markdown is about 50-percent off retail.  Most classic buckle styles are priced at $275. Other more elaborate designs were tagging at around $375 and up…  I did spot some deals on flats and heels (sans buckle) going for $200 (with an additional 20-percent off at the register).

Besides the shoes, there’s a variety of handbags priced from $400 to $1000+ (get an extra 15-percent off on certain styles) in all sizes and colors and assorted fabrications (patent leather, suede, straw, exotic skins, etc).  There was also a small selection of other goods such jewelry, wallets, gloves and more…

I was told that they will not be restocking… and as for discounts, staffers are saying they won’t be slashing sale prices. But with all this merchandise… one never knows!

Speaking of luxury, Elizabeth Taylor’s jewels, clothing and accessories are on exhibit this week at Christie’s.  The exhibition runs through Monday, December 12th, followed by the auction of the late actresses’ things.  I stopped in on Sunday and if you’re interested in jewelry, it really is worth finding the time to see this exhibit.

Besides the astonishing jewels, Taylor amassed an amazing collection of Couture clothing and handbags from the most coveted designers, including Chanel, Louis Vuitton, YSL, Valentino, Versace and more.  As for the jewelry, Richard Burton gave her some incredible pieces such as a stunning 33 carat diamond ring ($2.5M to $3.5M), a remarkable diamond and emerald necklace by Bulgari ($1M to $1.5M) as well as matching ear pendants ($150K to $200K) and bracelet ($300K to $500K).  On auction is also a La Peregrina necklace (pearl, ruby & diamond) by Cartier. If jewelry is not your thing, there’s also lots of memorabilia such as a bound copy of Taylor’s script for the 1944 MGM production of National Velvet ($2,000 to $3,000) and on display are 3 of her Oscars.

The Christie’s exhibit can be seen only by purchasing a time-specific ticket.  The items will be sold next week in a series of five separate auctions over four days.  With Christmas just around the corner, it’s time to start giving your loved one hints.
