It’s quite a hike unless you live in the ‘hood or are in the area… The weekend sample sale for Brooklyn boutique, In God We Trust ends today.  If you’re near a G-train, it’s worth a look-see.

I happen to be in the area yesterday so I checked it out… There was a lot of everything: clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories from local designers.  The women’s goods were in the front of the space.  Men’s (a couple of racks of apparel and shoes on a shelf) were in the back as were the Hayden Harnett handbags (from $29 to $160).

As for clothing, there was a rack for Mary Meyer pieces and $90 seemed to be the price for most things such as a sweatshirt cardigan, long dress and hoodies.  Also on hand were Vena Cava pieces (white cropped leather jacket was $150, dresses were $50-$100), Mocum wool cape was $230 and a silk dress was $260, Hayden Yoo knits ($25 to $70) and more.  There were also a couple of racks of In God We Trust pieces.  The shoes were 50-percent off the retail price.

Over the weekend, I stopped in to find a black Prada trench coat $167 (was $279), a black Phi tuxedo coat for $186 (was $310), Brooks Brothers by Tom Browne coat for $210 (was $350) and wool dress for $118 ($198), Philosophy dress for $80, Miu Miu patent leather pumps for $118 (was $197), Dries van Noten knee-length boots for $150 (was $250).  There were also pieces from Rick Owens, Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Marni, Martin Margiela and more…

Worth checking out if you’re in the area or live nearby… who knows, your digging could get you a lightly worn pair of Christian Louboutin pumps for $132 (were $220).

If you want to get an idea of what’s in store, check out the current sale section either in-stores or online where items are now up to 75-percent off.  When I was at the Madison Avenue store earlier this month, there were plenty of designer shoes to be had.   BTW, that’s where the discounts will begin at the start of the BWS.

Most of you already know the drill:  the selection is better the first few days.  If you wait a few days, you’ll get better deals when the price slashing starts… culminating to the best deals on the last days of the sale.  As for the west coast, the sale returns to the LA Convention Center, February 11 – 20.

I made a quick stop into the Theory sale in Soho on Wednesday… the discount is still at 70-percent off and there was a lot of merchandise left.  A new shipment of goods just arrived when we got there.  Staffers were taking the boxes into the back room so they could replenish the sales floor.

There were lots of Theory basics (knits, sweaters, pants and blazers) as well as Helmut Lang pieces, including coats (Mongolian fur jacket is now $465, was $1550; puffer jackets for $210, was $700; shearling coat for $975, was $3250; knit/felt coat for $328, was $1095).  There were also Theyskens Theory garments hanging on racks and boxes of shoes and handbags (Theyskens small messenger in suede (now $208) and pony hair (now $253).

The sale is suppose to go through this Sunday… in the past Theory has extended the sale and on the last day, they’ve been known to offer further discounts.

If you’ve ever been to ABC Carpet & Home near Union Square, you’ll know that it’s full of great stuff for your home as well as your closets…  Through Sunday, January 22^nd, the huge emporium is hosting its end-of-season sale.  While the signs say “up to 75-percent off,” most of the items I spotted were marked down 30-50% off the original price.

There are some great deals to be had here… from the usual and unique furniture, rugs, linens to original jewelry, garments, bags, accessories and so much more… The massive location on Broadway and 19^th Street was busy over the weekend with customers on the lookout for deals.  Even if you aren’t looking for anything specific, you’re bound to find something that catches your eye on one of the many floors in the building.

The large space on Mercer Street in Soho was fairly calm this morning as Theory‘s public sale got underway.  It was a breeze getting in. No line and no coat or bag check.

Lots of merchandise (clothing, shoes and bags at 70-percent off retail) from the main Theory line, Theyskens’ Theory as well as Helmut Lang.  While this is a sale on women’s stuff, I did spot a guy going through the shoes.  He appeared to be on the phone with someone, describing the offerings.

This is being called a “sample sale.”  But, I didn’t see any actual samples.  Mostly stock to be had.  Here’s a list of items I spotted:

Theyskens Theory:   Jistor shearling jacket $598 ($1995); the Jagat leather jacket $478.50 ($1595); Mici wool coat $298 ($995); Dilliam metallic brocade mini dress $223.50 ($745) Parcos leather pants $345 ($1150); the Yash cashmere cardigan $130.50 ($435).

The footwear were mostly Theyskens Theory:  Taylor boot $118.50 ($395); Stil Boot $127 ($425); Crop boot $148.50 ($495); flats (same ones from a previous sample sale) tagged at $88.50 ($295).

The dressing rooms can be found in the back of the space.  There really was a lot of merchandise so if you can’t make it today, you have another week to check out the sale.

Brit high-street retailer, AllSaints, kicked off its first-ever sample sale today in Soho.  The Wooster Street space was packed this evening with a very hip downtown crowd.  The line to the register appeared to be endless… and the shoppers who weren’t waiting to pay were rummaging through racks and tables.  The place was a mess.

Deals of 70-percent off the original retail price can be had for menswear, womenswear as well as kids wear.  Men’s clothing and accessories can be found on the main floor… downstairs, you’ll find women’s and kids clothing.  Plus, shoes for both sexes.  This was the same spot where the Suno & Co sample sale took place last month.  Back then, I thought the lighting was terrible… that hasn’t changed this time around.

As for the clothing… there was tons of merchandise left for both men and women.  Lots of basics and signature edgy pieces (especially some of the dresses & knits on offer).  Here’s a few examples:  Cotton jackets now $105 ($350); wool jackets at $63 ($210); suede jackets at $147 ($490); sweaters at $96 ($320); wool coats for $138 ($460); embellished silk top at $90 ($300); embellished dresses at $174 ($580); cotton pants at $59 ($199); long-sleeved linen top at $45 ($150); basic long-sleeved tees at $22.50 ($75);  basic short-sleeved tees at $13.50 ($45) and kids polos for under $10 ($32).

While the pricing should be easy enough to figure out… many of the items appear to have been discounted already.  Thus, many of the tags have different prices on them.  Just make sure to find the original price of the garment… that’s the starting point for the 70-percent off deal.  If you can’t figure it out, there are plenty of staff to help you.

An important note:  There are no dressing rooms so be prepared. Wear your sample sale ready clothing (such as tanks and leggings) so that you’re not caught in your knickers in a corner somewhere trying on your finds… while a male staffer or security guard walks by!

As you walk in, you’re required to check in your coat… Once inside, you’ll see the main area where you’ll find tons of shoes in all sorts of styles displayed on tables and organized by size. Underneath the tables are even more shoes in boxes so make sure to look there as well.  Prices for shoes start at $19.99 and go up to $99.99.  Labels include, Michael Kors (black patent pumps for $99.99), Tory Burch (espadrilles at $79.99), See by Chloe (clogs at $99.99), Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren, Stuart Weitzman and more.

This main section is well lit unlike the area against the walls where the boots are displayed.  The other problem is there weren’t any mirrors this morning… (I overheard a few shoppers complaining about it – difficult to tell what something looks like on your foot).

As for boots and booties, there’s plenty on offer with prices starting at $39.99 and going up to $249.99.  Here’s a few styles that caught my eye:  Cole Haan knee-high boots at $149.99;  Costume National booties for $179.99; Marc by Marc Jacobs booties tagged at $229.99; Stuart Weitzman boots for $199.99; See by Chloe booties for $198.99.  With a few months left of winter, it might be worth investing in a pair of  Pucci moon boots ( $79.99) which they had lots in size 38 and 39.  Hunter boots were priced at $59.99 and there were quite a few women looking at Uggs (ranging in price from $59 to $159.99).

Also on offer were handbags (Marc by Marc Jacobs, See by Chloe, Rebecca Minkoff, and more) and wallets near the entrance.  The sale goes through this Sunday.  Sale organizers tell me that they will be restocking daily…

Sale bags were lying on a glass counter in the designer handbag section of the main floor.  Labels included Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Prada, Marni, Tom Ford, Valentino and more.  The shoe department was mobbed where deals of 55% off retail on shoes and 30% off boots can be had.   I spotted Christian Louboutins, Manolo Blahniks, Jimmy Choos, Pradas, Chloes, Valentinos, YSLs and more…  The designer apparel floors was much more calm, just a few shoppers perusing the sales racks (up to 60-percent off).
