If you’ve ever been to ABC Carpet & Home near Union Square, you’ll know that it’s full of great stuff for your home as well as your closets…  Through Sunday, January 22^nd, the huge emporium is hosting its end-of-season sale.  While the signs say “up to 75-percent off,” most of the items I spotted were marked down 30-50% off the original price.

There are some great deals to be had here… from the usual and unique furniture, rugs, linens to original jewelry, garments, bags, accessories and so much more… The massive location on Broadway and 19^th Street was busy over the weekend with customers on the lookout for deals.  Even if you aren’t looking for anything specific, you’re bound to find something that catches your eye on one of the many floors in the building.

Luxury French skincare line Chantecaille‘s holiday sale ends today at 6pm. They just stocked up this morning after a busy rush yesterday depleted their offerings.

I quickly stopped in this morning and found primarily cosmetics… Eye shadows and palettes ($15-$50), lipsticks (just several colors left) for $15 and great lip gloss palette sets from $35-40. Pressed powders (cute minis for $20 to regular sizes at $30-$50). There were also scented bath gels and body lotions are $20.

Clothingline is hosting a sample sale this week offering a mix of labels, including Tocca, French Sole, Joe’s Jeans, Bibelot and more.  If you missed out on last month’s Tocca sample sale, this is your chance.  It appears that what didn’t sell is up for grabs at this infamous Garment District revolving sample sale space.

The selection and pricing is pretty much the same:  colorful feminine frocks and jackets ($85), skirts ($45), tops ($45) as well as the signature candles ($20 for the large and $10 for small ones).  As for the other deals, French sole flats in a limited selection of sizes, odd colors and styles are $75 and $100.  Charley 5.0 shirts are $29 and bottoms (jeans) at $39.  Cool Change dresses are $39 to $59.  Michael Simon tees are $10 and other tops are $20.  The space was pretty much empty after work yesterday.  Most likely due to the other sales (DVF and Ralph Lauren) taking place in town.   A pretty uninspiring selection not worth your time unless your in the neighborhood…

The scented candles and pastel colors of the Tocca showroom in Chelsea were a warm reprieve to the gray skies outside.  I stopped into the friends & family preview on Monday to look for dresses for my niece.  She’s a fan of Tocca’s feminine frocks.  The selection for girls’ dresses ($45) were limited.  But I did find her a great blue and white sundress – perfect for summer.

The sale merchandise (women’s and girl’s clothing, beauty products, and accessories) is 60 to 85 percent off retail.  The selection is not as wide as the previous sale in the fall.  But you will find lots of signature Tocca dresses ($85) in a wide selection of sizes from 0 to 12.  However, there’s more on offer if you’re a size 4.

There were also quite a few tops ($45), skirts ($45), and jackets ($85).  There were bargains on Sari dresses for $35 and embroidered skirts for $20.   The coveted candles are plentiful ($20 for large & $10 for the small).  Here are some of the scents I spotted:  Havana, Tahoe, Kyoto, Florence, Isabella, Tara, Ydra, Yma, Grace, Isabella, Stella… Also on offer are bottles of Eau de Parfum (Cleopatra, Touch, Bianca, Catanina, Amalfi, Salina).  In a corner, I also spotted handbags – not a great selection, but for $35 what can you expect?  I’m told that sale organizers will replenish both the candles and the garments.

Unless you’re a huge fan of Hermes, I’d suggest skipping this sale.  The other bloggers (Madison Avenue Spy) were correct in their overall assessment of this season’s deals… a disappointing selection and dissatisfying discounts.  I stopped in Thursday morning before the Phillip Lim sample sale (A mistake – I should have just gone straight to PL).

The much sought-after signature Hermes scarves are $231 down from $385 (I was hoping to get some gifts but I wasn’t impressed with this year’s selection).  Smaller scarves are $186, a cashmere scarf with leather trim was nearly $1000.  The ties are $111 (originally $185).  I went to the sale to check out the jewelry (especially rings) but yesterday they really didn’t have much of a selection. Enamel bracelets ranged in price from $215 for small ones to $330 for the large styles. I also spotted small bucket bags for $1100 and small totes for $962.  A felt taupe weekender caught my eye but the $1200 was too pricey for me.  Duffle bags are $4000.  As for footwear, boots are $1000+ and shoes at $500 to $1000 (for the nicer ones).  There were also fragrances (not as much as in previous sales) going for $75 (2 piece Eau de Toilette sets of Un Jardin Apres La Mousson) and $63 for the men’s Terre des Hermes.

With all the sample sales taking place today, it may not have been easy to figure out which one to hit first.  Artsy Anna hit up the Escada sample sale.  While she didn’t have much of a wait to get in this morning, apparently the line was growing as she left (I bet it wasn’t as bad as the line for the Phillip Lim sample sale this morning).  Here’s Anna’s report:

I’ve been to many an Escada sale but I’ve never seen a line to enter the expansive semi-annual sale at the Metropolitan Pavilion.  I waited about 15 minutes but by the time I left it was almost a half hour wait and stretching nearly out the door!  I make the pilgrimage every time the sale comes around and I enjoy the hunt for Escada’s well made vibrant solids.  That said, for a twenty-something, my style sense is pretty much classic or even a little bit conservative and the brand tends to attract a more mature crowd.  I was surprised to see so many eager shoppers in such a wide age range.  The sale is usually well attended but I’ve never seen anything like this. Maybe it’s the recent lack of good sales, maybe the economy is turning around, or maybe Escada is becoming the It brand of the moment but the pulse was going strong.

I held off making a purchase but I certainly made note of a few pieces I’ll be going back to revisit if  they end up reducing prices as the sale starts winding down (they usually do).  What are the prices?  It’s time to play match the dot again.  Blue and pink dots are 70% off retail, green 60%, and red and yellow 90%. Retail prices run $499-$18,000  so bring your calculators!  There’s a nice selection of shoes ($100) especially in sizes 6,7, and 9. Boots are $150.  Handbag selection is very limited.  Magazine totes are $199 and other styles run $350.  I saw two belts, both $99.  Fragrances are all $20 at the checkout.

On offer are current and past season dresses, gowns, shoes, handbags, tops, bottoms and more. We’re told that new merchandise will arrive daily.  As Anna has mentioned, sale organizers tend to slash prices in the final days of the sale.

At 9:30am Wednesday, the line to get inside the Hermès sale (officially started today) was insane.  Hardcore fans didn’t let the wintery weather stop them from waiting for what could be hours for those at the end of the line (which was in front of B&H at 9th Avenue b/w 33rd and 34th Sts.  If these people read Madison Avenue Spy’s VIP preview review,  they might not be standing out here in this horrid weather.  Her spies reported a disappointing selection, plus prices that weren’t much of a bargain.   As in the past, deals are mostly 40 percent off on merchandise, including scarves.  A small assortment of leather and enamel bracelets are reportedly 50 percent off.

The London-based apothecary, Space NK, is holding its semi-annual sale this weekend at its Soho location.  While the sale started Thursday, we found the store still fairly stocked with discounted merchandise. We’ve always come out with some great products here at bargain prices so we made sure not to miss this sale.  Space NK carries high quality, hard to find beauty products from all over the world.

The markdown for most items is currently 50-percent off, including products from Eve Lom, (a skincare line known for its legendary cleanser but now offers so much more), Apot.Care (a new French line of  skincare), Jurlique, and more.  You’ll also find scents from Honoré des Prés, Marc Jacobs, Tocca. If you’re looking cosmetic brushes, you’re in luck.  There’s tons on offer from Space NK’s own line and by Terry.  There’s also cosmetics but not as much as in previous sales.  You’ll also find candles by Dayna Decker and Carrière Frères.  Sale ends today… a sales associate told me yesterday that they would start offering further reductions on select items today.
