I have to agree with many of the rave reviews about Roger Vivier’s sale being held at Soiffer Haskin in Midtown.  Inside is an amazing assortment of footwear for all seasons and occasions.  Not only will you find the iconic pilgrim pumps (modern versions of the original shoe that Catherine Deneuve wore in the film “Belle de Jour“), you’ll also find strappy heels, sandals, ballet flats, wedges and boots in all sorts of fabrications and colors.  It’s like a candy store in there.  You’ll find it hard to decide what to take home.  So be prepared to dish out some serious dosh!

Thursday was only the second day and the selection was already picked over.  The signature RV red boxes were dwindling.  The popular classic styles with the signature buckles were going fast (mostly larger sizes were available, only a few if any of size 35, 36 and 37 were left).  But the good news is there’s so many other types of shoes on offer that you won’t have a hard time finding something that will catch your eye.

The markdown is about 50-percent off retail.  Most classic buckle styles are priced at $275. Other more elaborate designs were tagging at around $375 and up…  I did spot some deals on flats and heels (sans buckle) going for $200 (with an additional 20-percent off at the register).

Besides the shoes, there’s a variety of handbags priced from $400 to $1000+ (get an extra 15-percent off on certain styles) in all sizes and colors and assorted fabrications (patent leather, suede, straw, exotic skins, etc).  There was also a small selection of other goods such jewelry, wallets, gloves and more…

I was told that they will not be restocking… and as for discounts, staffers are saying they won’t be slashing sale prices. But with all this merchandise… one never knows!

A brisk and busy start to the Helmut Lang + Theyskens’ Theory fall sample sale today…  the 2nd floor of the brand’s showroom in the Flatiron is filled with plenty of merchandise, hung neatly by style on racks.  You’ll find the price lists tacked on the walls as well as sale signs for key garments placed on racks (very organized!).

Let’s get down to what’s on offer… urban cool in blacks, grays, tans, browns (and a smattering of muted colors here and there).  The Theyskens’ Theory goods are in the front of the space near the door … Helmut Lang in the middle and toward the cash registers and dressing room.

I’ll begin with Theyskens: Dresses are $229 (were $495 to $595), Blazers are also $229 (were $595), a light-weight basic cashmere sweater is $129 (was $495), outerwear (great wool coats) for $299 (were $795 to $995), organza skirts are $199 (were $495 and $795).

Now onto Helmut Lang: Dresses are going for $99-$159 (including a long asymmetrical dress with leather cap trim sleeve retailed for $495); denim/leggins are $79 (was $265), Outerwear is $329 (includes the Eon Jacket trimmed with leather which retailed for $874); a puffer coat is $329 (was $700).

Here’s the scoop on accessories:  Scarves are $99, gloves are $49, belts $39, and handbags are $159.  (If you need a complete picture of pricing, check out the price list in the gallery for each label)…

Sale goes through this Saturday… with all the stuff up for grabs, I wouldn’t be surprised if they offered further reductions this weekend.

As we mentioned in an earlier post, the Jil Sander sample sale kicked off yesterday morning… Discounts are 80-percent off for handbags and wallets; RTW (spring 2011 collection and the label’s casual luxe line, Navy) clothing and footwear are 85-percent off.  Check out the video which we shot Tuesday morning.

The doors open at 10am today… and they’re suppose to close at 6pm.  However, on Tuesday one of our readers told us that they stopped letting people in a few minutes after 5pm.  If you’re planning to go there after work, make sure you hit the doors by 5pm.  While the invitation sent to customers say: “Invitation Only”, we’re told that the security guard stopped checking yesterday afternoon.

It was a serene scene on the second to last day of the Hugo Boss sale.  Menswear continues to dominate with sparse but quality items available.  Women’s is limited to two racks–one of knit tops and the other of pants and dresses.  Prices haven’t been reduced.  There were 5-10 other shoppers this morning.

Surprising that they’re not offering further discounts since there appears to be so much stuff left… maybe tomorrow?

As other blogs such as Racked mentioned earlier this week, the Hugo Boss sample sale has more to offer gents… I finally got a chance to check out the sale and I must agree that the selection for women is fairly limited.  The picture above says it all… While there are pieces on offer, I didn’t think it was worth the trip to the far west side of Chelsea.  I found a couple of racks of women’s stuff, including a table with a few jeans.  And of course, the two pairs of strappy heels above (size 40) tagged at $30.

The pricing is pretty good but good luck trying to find anything worth snagging. Women’s tops are $45 and under, dresses start at $60 for jersey knits to $140 for gowns.  Sizing can also be an issue for some since most of the merchandise are samples.  That means, size 4 or 6.

As for men, there were racks of sport coats for $150, button down shirts ($40), knits and polos ($30), sweaters, suits for $250, trousers at $50 (mostly size 34R), many of the shoes ($60), boots ($72) and sneakers ($45) were size 9s.
