Being a huge fan of the NYC-based brand, Araks, I always try to make time to check out the label’s seasonal sample sales. It’s great that they open early (8:30am) on the first day of the sale, which gives working girls like me an opportunity to shop before getting into the office. Apart from a handful of shoppers this morning, the showroom located near Chinatown was fairly quiet.
Today, The NEWS Showroom opens its doors in Soho for its seasonal sample sale featuring Common Projects, Clu, Cheap Monday, Anniel and more… Yesterday, we stopped in and shot video of the friends & family preview. Check it out and see what shoppers have in store for them – lots of stuff!
Mara Hoffman two-day sample sale ends tomorrow (Saturday) at 7pm. Here you’ll find deals of 50 to 80 percent off ready-to-wear and swimwear. Fashionable Femme Jen checked out the offerings on Friday. Here’s her report:
Despite the rain, a sizeable crowd gathers inside the Mara Hoffman sample sale this afternoon. The sale isn’t overly crowded and there is a changing area sectioned off in the back. Racks of tops, swimwear, cocktail dresses, knits and floor length dresses hang on racks with a table of knits and a few tupperware bargain bins placed intermittently on the floor.
The French underwear line, Pull-In, is moving its store to the Lower East Side later this month… As part of the move, the shop is clearing out its Bowery location with a sample sale. On Friday, Fashionable Femme Jen stumbled on the sale. The brand’s playful designs gave her a much-needed distraction after finishing a busy week at work. Here’s her report:
As I walk home after an exhausting work-week, a big red “Sample Sale 70% off” sign catches my eye. Curiosity—and a bright pink romper with bright yellow bananas—gets the best of me. Inside, I’m greeted by a mannequin in sushi PJ’s and hundreds of pairs of pleasantly patterned Pull-In underwear, sleepwear and swimwear. Despite heavy fatigue, I can’t help but smile.
The DKNY sample sale kicked off this morning to the public in the Flatiron District. Yesterday (Monday), sale organizers at 260 Fifth Avenue opened the doors for a preview. There was no line in the late afternoon. Inside, a few shoppers were browsing and some were lined up waiting to get into the dressing room in the back.

In terms of quantity, there’s not a whole lotta sample sales taking place this week… except for a couple of big ones worth nothing:
On Tuesday, the first-ever DKNY sample sale kicks off to the public. We’re told it will feature women’s and men’s apparel, accessories and shoes at up to 70% off retail. Where/When: 260 Fifth Avenue (b/w 28th & 29th Streets). Aug 21-25; Tues (10-8p), Wed-Thurs (9-8p), Fri (10-6p), Sat (10-5p).
Another is the infamous Barneys Warehouse Sale which begins this Thursday. Expect the markdowns to start at 75% off men’s, women’s and children, as well as home. As most of you know, the sale went online before making it offline to the Chelsea location. We’re wondering how much and what kind of merchandise will be on offer at the traditional sale. Also, what will the price slashing be like as the sale goes on through Labor Day. The online sale saw discounts of up to 90% off retail on select items such as home. Where/When:255 W. 17th Street.
