Barneys Warehouse Sale Update: Price Slashing Continues

Price List

As we enter the final days of the Barneys Warehouse Sale, the discounts get deeper and the crowds get bigger.  Friday was apparently a madhouse, especially in the afternoon.  A friend stopped in after work to see the offerings.  He managed to snag a photo of the price list for us (see above).  He tells us that the men’s selection was pretty good.  He made out with four pairs of trousers, a tie and a pair of ankle boots.

As you can see from the price list, women’s designer (with the red star on tags) is now an additional 60 percent off (WHSE stamped items at 75%). Women’s ready-to-wear is also an extra 60 percent off and women’s shoes are 50 percent off the sale price (BLUE stamped shoes are 75% off).  Let us know if you make it into the sale this weekend and if you score on any deals…

VIDEO: Fab Finds at the Project No. 8 Sample Sale

While many of us are waiting for the Barneys Warehouse Sale, this weekend’s end-of-season sale being held at the boutiques, Project No. 8 and No. 8b, is well worth the trip.  I checked out the goods yesterday and found some fabulous deals.  The women’s shop, Project No. 8, [...]

Alexander Wang Opens Early to the Public

At 9am this morning, there were no lines, no list and no crowd at the Alexander Wang sample sale in Soho! I was told yesterday that the press preview was this morning but staffers weren’t checking names. The sales floor was busy. However, it was manageable.

I didn’t have much time to look but here’s the scoop on the goods. In the middle of the space are $25, $50 and $150 racks of random samples and overstock (dresses, tops, skirts, shorts and pants). There were also sample bins starting at $10 which already looked picked over.

Other merchandise are color coded (check out the photo below for prices).  I spotted knit drapey dresses for $80, microfiber black dresses for $200, cute short jumpers for $180, light knit sweaters and pants at $160, blazers $100, leather jackets $500, jackets with leather trim for $240 and more – much more.  As for handbags… as one reader (AJ) commented earlier this morning there are no Roccos with studs apart for one that is made of clear plastic.  One medium sized hobo in beige (simple) that caught my eye was going for $250.  The shoes are on several racks in the back and you have to ask to see them.  Flats are $150, heels at $250 and boots from $250 to $300.  Most of the sizes are 37s and 40s, but there are a few 38s and 39s.  Also on offer are T by Alexander Wang knits in boxes (tanks, tees, etc) staring at $20.

Best Buy at Barbara Bui

As I’ve said before in this blog, I’m a big fan of French designer Barbara Bui‘s cool, classic and clean pieces.  I’m hooked on her pants (the fit is perfect) and I love her tailored jackets but the four figure price tag is too much for me.  So when she holds a sale, I try to make it.  For just two days (sale ends Friday), Bui has marked down her spring/summer 2010 collection (including shoes and handbags) 70 percent off the retail price.

When I stopped in late yesterday, the boutique on Wooster Street looked sparse.  Some shelves were bare.  A staffer told me that a lot of shoppers had already come in throughout the day and picked through the racks. As a result, many of the smaller sizes had been snapped up.  A disappointment for me since I spotted a few knit tops ($100), pants ($150+) and tanks ($50) that I really liked.  But my size was not available.  A pair of ballet flats in metallic blue ($120) also caught my eye.  But once again, not available in my size.  A few large handbags were left (mostly black for $600) and a couple of small shoulder bags for about $200.  There were still a few things on offer such as jackets for $400+, dresses $300+, pants for $150+ and more, including a limited selection of heels and platforms for around $250.

Last Call for Clothingline

Clothingline is closing its doors for the month of August.  Before doing that, the Garment district’s often criticized sample sale spot is having one final sale before going on hiatus.  On offer is a mixed bag of merchandise.

I thought some of the Milly items (actual samples) were worth it – feminine pieces and classic silhouettes.  I spotted some signature Milly – Palm Beach palette in great fabrics and prints.  The items are a steal:  tops, skirts and pants at $39, dresses from at $59 and $79.  One problem is the sizing (size 4 or 6). There were several racks of Tory Burch odds and ends, including dresses ($50), tops ($25) and bottoms ($35).  None of the Tory Burch caught my eye.

There was also plenty of sweaters (if you can even think of wool and cashmere in this heat) by Design History at affordable prices – samples from $25 to $50.  Several styles of Kooba handbags were available going for $225 and $275.  Boy Meets Girl tanks & tops are $30, hats $20 and bags $35.

One of the guys who runs the place, Michael, was in rare form today.  Seriously.  I don’t know where he comes up with his announcements.  As he was trying to scoot the customers out of the space at closing, he said “Ladies, the sales floor is now closed.  While I really want to stay here, I have a life.  I have to get home so I can feed my fish!!!”

Diesel Drive-By

Artsy Anna made a quick sweep this afternoon of Diesel’s warehouse sale in Chelsea.  She didn’t have a lot of time to browse.  She did take some photos for us and filed this report:

I only had a minute to swing by Diesel this afternoon. I found the industrial 2nd floor warehouse space overflowing with the label’s signature denim and urban street wear.  Be prepared to do some discount math as prices are 60%, 70% and 80% off of original tickets, depending on the style of clothing.  Can be confusing so bring a calculator.  There are bargin bins – items going for $5 are very picked over–only a few XL men’s belts remain.  There’s plenty to choose from–bikinis, belts, hats, tops. You’ll need more than a few minutes to look though because, after a frenzied morning opening, stock is a bit disorganized.

Apparently, Diesel has more than 10,000 pieces of discounted men’s and women’s apparel on offer.  Last June’s sale wasn’t great.  If you happen to stop by, let us know if the merchandise at this sale is better…

Further Reductions at the Theory & Helmut Lang Sale…

Thursday is the last day of the Theory & Helmut Lang womenswear sale at Clothingline.  As I reported earlier this week, the Garment District space had loads of merchandise at bargain basement prices.  Some of it was damaged.  But if you looked carefully, you’ll find some pretty good basics. If you’re in the market [...]
