French brand, Carven, is hosting a sample sale this week at its Chelsea Showroom – 530 West 25th Street.
We spotted plenty of the looks from the Spring 2018 Runway Collection as well as past season pieces when we checked out the sale today (Tuesday). They hadn’t been open an hour and already the small space was already mobbed.
Highlights include print dresses with drawstring gathers in climbing ropes, crop tops. There were also Barbour-style jackets that were also cropped.
Racks are situated throughout the space but it was difficult to even go through them. The handbags are displayed on shelves (mostly priced at $200+), wallets are $75.
There’s no fitting room so many of the shoppers were trying on in front of the only two mirrors in there.
As for footwear, samples are just $50 but if you can’t find your size or want stock footwear, they do have some of the Gommino-style loafers (sling-back with fringing) tagged at $189.
Prices on sale items are labeled and if not just ask a helpful staffer. We spotted dresses at $100+, Tops starting at $50, sweaters $70-$130, sweatshirts at $65 and a size range of safari jackets made of denim for just $50.
French couturier Madame Carmen de Tommaso established Carven in 1945 with a clientele of celebrities, including royals. Today, while Creative Director Serge Ruffieux is setting his own path, he’s trying to stay true to the brand. His pieces are cool yet still heavily influenced by the travels of the label’s famous founder.
