Many of our readers will recall the infamous Barneys Warehouse Sale from years past… where we found amazing deals. When we heard that the sale was returning to Brooklyn, we were curious to see what kinds of bargains would be on offer. The impending storm prompted us to cancel beach plans over this holiday weekend. So we went to the Barneys Warehouse Sale in Williamsburg instead.
The sale began last Wednesday (August 31) and will stay open through Sept. 14. When we heard that the sale will include “thousands of men’s and women’s ready-to-wear and accessories styles,” we were excited about the prospects.
I went with The Mister who has accompanied me to many BWS. We weren’t sure what to expect. But after spending 5 minutes inside, we realized that this isn’t anywhere near the sale we remember from years past. There were plenty of designer merchandise but most of them were mid-range designers and not so desirable.
I did spot some higher-end pieces, including Marni and Margiela shoes for women, an Ann Demeulemeester T-shirt, Proenza Schouler dress. The problem we had was that the gems were few and far between or otherwise not there at all. Sale pricing is an additional 20% off the ticketed price, which is anywhere from 70%-75% retail for most things. Although, I did spot a Derek Lam dress at $143 (was $1,750). But those deals were rare.
When The Mister said the offerings were worst than TJ Maxx and Marshalls, I decided it was time to go.
If you happen to be in the neighborhood, you should stop in. But not really worth a special trip into Williamsburg. Or you could just go to the retailer’s online clearance site (here) where they’re offering an additional 30% off.
We hear that there are no plans for future sales. Probably a good thing. Click here to our Calendar Page for location/date details of the sale.
