With the year end, we can all expect to find deals at retailers throughout New York City. Larry Label Whore checked out the deals at the high end stores… Here’s his report:
“Avid readers of Sample Sally know this is my second favorite time of the year – the December end-of-season department store sales! My other favorite time of the year is, of course, the July end-of season sales. As usual, I stopped at Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman, and Saks Fifth Avenue to give you all the scoop.
First off, I was shocked to see Barneys and Bergdorfs only go up to 70% off this year. Usually they go 75% off, but with retail shopping at an all-time high I’m guessing they felt they would sell the same amount of stock (or more) even with 5% less.
At Barneys, all of the sale items were moved to the 3rd floor and above to make way for the new collections. The sale section included many of the top names: Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Balmain, Moncler Gamme Bleu, Fendi, Paul Smith, Givenchy, Dries van Notten, Valentino, etc… Nothing caught my eye except a couple of pieces. They were a Balmain snake embroidered half-zip sweatshirt and a Moncler Gamme Bleu gold-buttoned long-sleeve shirt. These were $339 and $209 after the 70% off, respectively. I went back the day after Christmas to snag a Christian Louboutin leather tote bag at 40% off for $1,300 that I regretted not getting the first time I went.
Bergdorfs was a bust for this sale. They had the same designers as the above mentioned, but the pieces left were really not that flattering. Even the same Louboutin bag from Barneys was regular price at Bergdorfs. Last Bergdorf end-of-season sale I scored Fendi monster wallets and a Givenchy sweater, but this time nothing.
The day after Christmas I also stopped by Saks where they were advertising a one-day 70% off sale, but I’m almost certain they will bring it back for New Year’s Eve as they do every year. I usually go to Saks to see the sale merch I can’t get at Barneys and Bergdorfs, which are items by Dior, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Burberry. As at Bergdorfs, the merch that was left looked terrible. The only sale items at Saks worth the money were the men’s and women’s shoes which were up to 60% off. They had great Ferragamo slide sandals for as low as $70.20 for men and discounts on Louboutin, Dior, and Chanel shoes for women.
As always, you can find the best steals at Bloomingdale’s which is my go-to department store. The selection for the department stores has been seriously depleted, but they’re worth checking out if they go to an additional markdown after the 70% off.
Happy Shopping and Happy Holidays!” -Larry Label Whore
