Through Saturday, NYC-based Chilean designer, Maria Cornejo, is hosting a sample sale in Nolita. I popped into the large space on Centre Street yesterday. Before you can shop, you have to check-in your handbag and coat. Plus, they asked me to sign a liability form, which I thought was weird. The staffer explained that the form was for the building landloard and it was necessary so that the label wouldn’t be liable for anything (stolen goods? accidents?). Anyway, I signed the form.
Once inside, the space is divided into men’s and women’s merchandise. In the middle are boxes filled with sweat-shirts ($75), tees & tanks ($35), swimwear ($75 each) and belts. There was a lot of stuff and what looked like overstock fall/winter and spring/summer. There was also a rack stuffed with samples such as an unfinished jacket for $50. As for other items, here’s the pricing: jackets/blazers at $250; woven dresses $350; tunics $300; woven pants $175; knit pants $125; knit skirts/shorts $125; knit jersey dresses $175; Zero Esquivel shoes are $250. Toward the front there were a few great leather coats ($700) and pants ($450).
Several of the swimwear caught my eye but since they had no dressing room where I could try them on, I decided against purchasing them.
Where/When: 249 Centre St., b/t Broome & Grand Sts. Thru April 28th (Daily 11-7p).
