The Barneys Warehouse Sale is undeniably one of the biggest sales in New York City. It’s always mobbed, especially on the first day. This season was no different as Racked reported this morning while line blogging with the early birds standing in line an hour before the doors opened. I showed up before 10am to find no line. However, the scene inside was madness. No surprise that the women’s shoe section was crowded.
Women shoes can be found in the same place as usual right when you walk in. This time, sale organizers are offering an additional 25 percent off items with the “BLUE” stamp. I spotted a few shoes with the blue stamp, including a Marc Jacobs pump that was already on sale for under $150. I was told that those items are from previous seasons which is why there’s an extra discount. As for the selection in footwear, as usual plenty of designer sandals and heels with a smattering of boots. I spotted a pair of Balenciaga super high heeled gladiators for $500 (my friend picked up the same pair during last winter’s sale for $150). I also saw a few Lanvin pumps from two seasons ago going for $400. There’s a few Loub flat sandals, wedges and heels, Lanvin cut-out slingbacks, Prada wedges, sandals and heels, Chloe, Costume National, Pierre Hardy, Rochas, Robert Clergerie, Stella McCartney, and more. There’s a lot of product and you have to spend the time to really look.
Same goes for the apparel. This time, the merchandise has been moved around. The Barneys Coop merchandise is closer to the shoe section – separated by type and size. High-end designers are towards the back – organized alphabetically by designer. I noticed that this season’s designer selection was not as plentiful as last summer. Sale organizers are also offering an additional 25 percent off on items with the “WHSF” stamp.  Here’s what caught my eye: Prada silk coat cream $1,119 (was $2795); Prada black taffeta dress going for $1,339; Proenza Schouler black dress at $389 (was $995); Zero Maria Conejo dress $379 (was $625); Dries Van Noten graphic print dress $599 (plus an extra 25% off); Dries Van Noten cardigan at $369 (was $925); Dries Van Noten blazer at $389 (was $1115); Comme des Garçons $490 (was $1260); Christopher Kane beaded dress now $2,179 (was $5400); Balenciaga Black dress for $1,500. I spotted the same Boudicca dress that I was eyeing at the Project No. 8 sale going for $1,299 (was $2,165). At Project No. 8, the dress was on sale for $346.
One major improvement this season is that a screen has been placed in the women’s section somewhat covering the makeshift changing area. Ladies, you won’t have to worry about boyfriends or husbands walking by and seeing you in your undies! We suggest you check out the sale during the first few days to see if you find any gems. Then go back when sale organizers start offering further reductions. The last week of the sale is when you’ll get the real deals.
Where/When: 255 W. 17th St., b/t Seventh & Eighth Aves. Aug. 19-Sept 6th. Aug. 19 & 20 (8-9p), Mon.-Fri (10-9p), Sat., Sun. & Mon. Sept. 6 (10-7p).

Please let me know when the real markdowns happen thanks!
Will do!
Notice any Lanvin Acne? If so is it newer merchandise or same as before? I assumed they wouldn’t buy the collection again since they had so much left over.
Deme – I didn’t notice any Lanvin for Acne this time around. Some Acne pieces but I didn’t see any of the collab with Lanvin. The designer choices are really not great this summer. Very disappointing…!
Thanks SS for the update.
Sally! I’m really disappointed with the sale this year. What do you think? The new layout is horrible! and there is so little designer clothing. I went to the one in LA and they had tons tons more.
I must agree with you, Barneyshopper… the choices for designer clothing was not that great this time around (the first look). My boyfriend checked out the men’s section and he wasn’t impressed either! I’ll keep checking for new merchandise and let you guys know if they bring in new and better things.
What did you find at the L-A sale? What was on offer?
Hey Sally, I didn’t buy anything because I could only visit one day and it was before any discounts went through so I just went to look. There was a TON of Dries, Thakoon, Celine, Christopher Kane, Alaia. I was really going to look for the Dries and I saw things that I hadn’t even seen at the Mad Ave store. But for the things I liked, the prices were basically the same as the last day of the sale at the store (60% off) so it was kind of like what’s the point? Also, I was going to wait for the NY sale anyway and I bought the things I really wanted at the store towards the end of the store sale because I didn’t wait until the warehouse sale, which I’m really glad I did because there’s nothing now in the NY sale and there is a lot of wear and tear on the clothes. Didn’t you find that there is so much damaged stuff? At the same time, while the LA sale had more designer stuff, they had none of the fighting spirit of the New York sale that makes the NY sale an event. It’s like a giant SYMS. Very calm. Very little noise. In a cavernous depressing atmosphere. Am hoping that stuff will migrate over to NY. Let us know if you see anything new. In any case, I will wait until the discounts go through to go have another look!
