Slim Pickings at POSH Fashion Sell-A-Thon

The annual charity POSH sale is taking place this weekend at Lighthouse International in Midtown. The sale offers pieces from a wide-range of designers, including Chanel, Dior, Escada, Ralph Lauren and more.  Artsy Anna stopped in yesterday afternoon.  Here’s her report:

I hate to knock a sale that goes to a good cause, but the POSH Fashion Sell-A-Thon was very disappointing. Given the designers listed on the sale poster, I thought the sale would include donations direct from designers. That didn’t seem to be the case.

While the women’s clothing had a more generous selection than the men’s, I saw a lot of old fashioned career wear and $20 used Jones New York sweaters. Highlights include a Paul & Joe coat for $495 and a lavender Chanel jacket for $650. There also was a very cool woven, unsigned handbag for $250. Other than these items, nothing caught my eye. There was a wide selection of home goods but you need a good eye and a lot of patience if you are going to find anything worthwhile. The men’s section was thin, with sad looking casual wear and used Nike shoes.

There also was a $30 fill-a-bag room, but the clothes in these bins would be better off donated to the needy. You’re better off going to Housing Works.
