This week, the high-end retailers are entering final markdowns to their end-of-season sales. The Saks Fifth Avenue gathered its inventory and began its highly-popular consolidation sale today. Fellow shopper, Laura, went into the store this afternoon and took a look:
I headed over to the Saks consolidation sale (on the 9th floor at Saks through February 12th) to see just how tempting 70% percent discounts could be. Today was the first full day of the sale and the goods already looked stale and picked over.
There was no contemporary selection like there was last winter and there was definitely a lot less merchandise than last summer. The 9th floor has signs for TSE, Marc Jacobs, Moschino, Carolina Herrera, Oscar, St. John, Roberto Cavalli, Marni, Dolce & Gabbana etc. What I saw was a lot more conservative clothing such as TSE, St. John, Akris and Carolina Herrera. Barely any Dries Van Noten, Marni and Moschino. Marc Jacobs had a few sad pieces and I spotted one lonely Thakoon dress in need of a home.
The items that were left were well priced. I spotted a gorgeous Jason Wu dress priced at $729 ($546 after the additional discount) a cute Michael Kors striped sweater for $317 ($237 after the discount) and a pretty, conservative Akris dress for $539 ($404 after the discount).
For die-hard shoppers, this sale is worth a shot because you’d likely find something you loved. This afternoon the ninth floor was chock full of aggressive shoppers and there wasn’t even that much to buy; I can’t imagine there will be a lot left by February 12th. If interested I’d head over asap or skip it all together go to Barneys where the markdown is now at up to 75% off.
